So about six months ago i watched witchblade. While i didnt like the fact that it was within shouting distance of the "fix the problem you created" plot. I thought it shaped up into a very good ending

So im wondering, what are some good anime series with good plots? What should i avoid?

There are plenty of shows that deserve a watch, still I feel like I could recomend more accurately if you added what kind of animes you prefer. Action, adventure, SoL, whatever else, Y'know.

Still, if you liked Witchblade, I would genuinely recomend you to watch more Gonzo animes. For example, Speed Grapher, Burst Angel, Gankutsuo...

They have a peculiar way of making animes. The plot is not specially great, but the characters are what makes it for me.

If you're up for some weird **** with quite unique characters, I'd say FLCL is a safe bet.

And I think that's pretty much everything I got.

EDIT:

I just remembered

- Fractale

- Un-Go (including episode 0)

- Eden of the East

- C: The money of soul

- Xam'd: The lost memories

- Darker than Black (I guess)

- Kami Nomi

- Michiko to Hachin

Granted, your mileage may vary with "Good," but I really enjoyed:

* Romeo X Juliet

* Ouran High School Host Club

* Spice and Wolf

* Honey and Clover

* D. Grey Man

* Wolf's Rain

* Outlaw Star

* Soul Eater

* Angel Beats

And probably some others I can't think of right now.

As for "Bad"?

* FLCL was visually well made, but weird and confusing, with irritating voice acting

* Elfen Lied . Just... don't

* High School of the Damned is fine if all you're interested in is gore-splattered teenage boobs

* ANY YuGiOh after the first series, and even that was "meh..."

* Mon Kolle Knights, a TERRIBLE Pokemon/YuGiOh knockoff

* Fighting Foodons. Like Pokemon, but you eat them.

'Good' is extremely subjective in the anime fanbase, but here are some I thought had good stories and characters:

-Steins;Gate

-Fate/Zero

-Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood

-Gurren Lagann

-Charlotte (Currently Airing)

Some of my favorites/ones worth mentioning (you didn't say whether or not to count movies):

-Death Note
-Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion

-Gurren Lagann

-Now and then, Here and There

-Noein: To your Other Self

-Any movie from Studio Ghibli

-Fulmetal Alchemist and Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood (its interesting to see the different direction the writers took Full metal Alchemist from the original story in Brotherhood)

-Escaflowne

-.hack//Sign

-Dragonball Z (Pretty Much the modern example of fighting/action anime)

-Yugioh (Might not be into this if you don't like the whole card game concept to begin with)

-Trigun

-Black Jack (TV and OVA's)

-Naruto and Naruto Shippuden (The orignal Naruto is not nearly as good as the Shippuden arc but you have to watch the original to make sense of it all)

-One Piece (Show starts out slow but gets going after awhile; series is still ongoing already having more than 700 episodes)

-Detective Conan, known as Case Closed in the US.

-Neon Genesis Evangelion

-Space Battle Ship Yamato, Known in English as Star Blazers(this version is heavily Edited)

edit-Clord reminded me of sports anime which I forgot to mention

-Eyeshield 21

-Slamdunk

-Major (This one is a very emotionally charged show)
*I have more but that should keep even an avid Anime Watcher busy for awhile*

I generally watch subbed versions at Crunchyroll so if you don't mind subs. Though depending your region, it locks away stuff.

Gintama (There are plenty of jokes/humor you will get even as foreigner.)

Eyeshield 21 (Hiruma carries the show.)

Sword Art Online (Duh.)

Log Horizon

Naruto and Naruto Shippuuden (until they begin to really drag it on with flashback fillers.)

One Piece (Again, duh.)

Never in my life did I expect to see someone else recommend Noein: To your Other Self!! That is easily my favourite anime.

I also second the suggestions for Steins;Gate and Fate/Zero above. Also recommend Princess Tutu, Mushishi, Baccano, Durarara, Katanagatari, Eureka 7, Scrapped Princess.

I don't think you got FLCL then, even in English it was pretty accurate.

Anything after GX was meh personally.

How does anyone not recommend Rurouni Kenshin/Samurai X?!?!

I'm not saying FLCL had a bad translation. It was just clearly written by a chronic glue sniffer. I probably could have deciphered the plot, but after three episodes, I couldn't subject myself to any more torture. I could not follow the story at all, the constant camera cuts nearly gave me a seizure, and the actress voicing the pink haired chick was AGONIZING to listen to.

Watch Infinite Ryvius. The best anime that no one has ever heard of. Unless they know me in which case I've suggested it to them.

I could recommend a whole list of animes, but the ones that I've watched recently are:

-Arslan Senki (good for anyone who enjoyed FMA, since it's the same author.)

-The Fate series (Stay night, Zero and Unlimited blade works, it's best to watch them in that order)

-Kyoukai no kanata (a bit different from the ones above, but the perfect mixture of romance, comedy and fantasy)

-Orenchi no furo jijou(don't be misled by the opening, it's a cute little slice of life anime starring a guy and his pet merman XD)

-Makura no danshi (it's a weird anime, especially because it has a very different kind of "story telling". Basically, there's one person in each episode, talking with the watcher XD)

I could recommend more, but those are either already mentioned above or their manga is better.

There are also great "shorts."

Yamishibai: Japanese Ghost Stories.

Miss Monochrome (Richer than Bill Gates and yet somehow loses all the money to a single person who asks them as she is an android who wants to become popular idol.)

How could I forget about The Slayers? Silly me.

Mostly a fantasy comedy but can be epic and sad as well, it's a good mix of different emotions and actually the most hilarious anime I ever watched. The Slayers follows the adventure of Lina Inverse and her group, she's a tough high class sorceress with a hot-head and a bad reputation. Definitely a must watch, you'll die of laughs for sure, it's extremely entertaining and the characters are well developed and likeable.

Seacliff is right, "good anime" is VERY subjective. (Reminds me of the time I tried to convince a friend to watch High School DxD Born because they toned down the fan-service for plot and action). I would recommend Jojo's Bizarre Adventure and Devilman (I don't quite know your "taste" so they may not resonate with you).

Though in recent light I would also recommend Charlotte which is still airing, Rokka no Yuusha is quite good so far as well (the whole Aztec setting helps set it apart somewhat) and last but not least I would check out GANGSTA, it's just so different from the anime norm its fresh.

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
