I'd reccomend Jojo's Bizarre Adventure (the manga more than the anime since the anime hasn't reached parts 4-8), Darker Than Black, Log Horizon, Toradora, Golden Time, Serial Expirements Lain, Roar of the Machine God Demonbane, Gurren Lagann, Now and Then, Here and There, Kill la Kill, Fate/Kalied Liner Prisma Illya (I personally liked it more than Fate/Zero, but it's mostly cause I've read the manga, the anime hasn't reached the good part and is padding out 2wei which was definitely a part that didn't need padding to begin with), Outlaw Star, The Soul Eater, Betterman, Last Exile, FLCL, Black Bullet, Selector Infected WIXOSS, Gunbusters 1 and 2 I'll go ahead and reccomed Fate/Zero too. I want to reccomend Silent Mobius, but I haven't seen it in like ten years so I don't remember if it was really good or just my nostalgia.

Also a Half reccomendation to Fractle (it's got stuff that works and stuff that doesn't work.)

Not reccomended would be...

Highschool of the Dead/ Attack on Titan (one is the other with the fanservice removed and has even worse characters)

Fate/Zero (I put it on both sides cause I liked the parts with Waver Velvet, but couldn't stand the actual protagonist Kirtsugu, he reeked of someone the audience was meant to project on to feel badass themselves.)

Sword Art Online ( an even worse version of the above with lots of bad writing)

Infinite Stratos (Do you like nothing happeneing, then boy is this the show for you)

Puella Magi Madoka Magica (I feel like it wants to be profound but never gets beyond saying that people become sad when bad things happen to them, but I will admit there are some part with really slick visuals)

Soul Eater (I actually tried to like this one...got about 12 episodes in and it never got any better, it tried way too hard to be over the top)

Haha, I enjoyed those animes ~

Soul Eater ( yay fun battles and comedy! )

Log Horizon ( yay teamwork ! yay strategy! )

The 7 Deadly Sins (it starts their characters at lv 1000 and has basically nowhere to go, but still somehow manages to be fun XP )

Sword Art Online (only the first part...)

One Piece (but it gets slower and slower, Dragon Ball syndrome)

Legit appreciate those anime series and would buy the DVDs if I'd find them for a cheap price , or had more money:

High School of the Dead  (Didn't think I'd like it at first. But - it's fabulous. )

Puella Magi Madoka Magica (Didn't expect much at first. But it's also fabulous... not in the HOTD sense tho XD )

Spice and Wolf ( haven't seen much of it yet but I like what I saw )

Maoyuu Maou Yuusha ( medieval economy fantasy-politics simulator - with boobs? all right, you got my attention now! )

Mushishi [X] got that one!

Saber Marionette (complete series- maybe part- nostalgia, but as far as I remember it was really sweet XD and crazy art style)

Suzumiya Haruhi - Melancholy of, Disappearance of ( I like that series ^^; Sue me. I think those students are doing just great. )

Serial Experiment Lain (again, nostalgia. but wow, was that series neat... )

Shiny elite- titles everyone (should) know:
Those titles need no explanation. They just "are".

Samurai Champloo

Cowboy Bebop

Honourable mentions:

Windy Tales ( o__O huh... )

Utawarerumono ( . )

Higurashi ( umm.. I liked the 2nd season, kinda.. )

Attack on Titan ( because.... iunnow. Mikasa Ackermann? )

That's all animes that come to mind that I liked. ^^

Owch...  Yeah...  Bad bad question you should not ask.  Okay, first the disclaimer.  If I watched an anime all the way to the end, I generally liked it (with a few exceptions).  If I never finished it, it means it got really bad, was really annoying, or just wasn't something I personally enjoy (be it genre, plot, cliches, etcetera).

With that, let's get into my list of anime!

Planetes.  A space anime about a group of people who clean up space to make it safe for space travel.  Essentially, they clean up loose junk in orbit.  It's got a romance subplot (which is actually pretty realistic and I enjoyed) as well as some political intrigue.  Trust me, it's way more interesting than it sounds.  If you get five episodes in and aren't having fun with it, then it just isn't your thing.  Plus, it's pretty realistic about outer-space.  Which, as a sci fi fan...  I LOVE.

Angel Beats.  A delightfully funny, but also seriously sad anime.  If you aren't bawling like a child at the end, then you have no heart or soul.  Seriously, I bawled.  It plays like "slice of life" except everyone in it is dead, and it just gets weirder from there.  Watch it out of curiosity, if nothing else.

Code Geass.  If you want an anime where you can legitimately cheer for the badguy, this is it.  It's heavy in mech fighting (moreso in season two) and political intrigue.  It's got slice of life stuff in there, but it takes place in an alternate world where history events played out way more crazily and now the world is ruled by Darwinist nazi stand-ins.  It's also got some magic in it, but I'll leave that surprise up to you.  If you get 5 episodes in and don't like it, you never will.

Black Lagoon.  Another anime about cheering for the badguys.  A Tokyo businessman gets captured and ransomed by pirates to his business, who refuse to pay the ransom.  He decides to join the pirates instead, and so starts his life applying some of his morals to his now illegal and immoral lifestyle.  It gets pretty interesting and pretty disturbing.  When you hit the arc with the twins, be prepared to have your soul ripped out in pity, anger, and disgust.  No anime has ever given me such a visceral reaction before.

Jormungand.  Yep, another anime about cheering for the badguys.  Arms dealers, specifically.  A white haired Chesire Cat grin wearin' woman named "Koko" and her band of mercenaries and one recently recruited child soldier who hates war and hates arms dealers.  If you enjoy Black Lagoon, you will enjoy this, and vice versa.  Plus, the intro song is pretty freakin' sweet and gets stuck in your head for days.

Dangan Ronpa (I think I spelled that right).  It's an anime based on a game.  It shows in the animation and presentation as well.  But, it is delightful and horrifying.  Kids are trapped in a school and are told by a teddy bear that the only way they can escape is if they kill one of their classmates and get away with it.  If one manages to get away with the murder, the rest of the students die while that one goes free.  If they don't get away with the murder, they are themselves, killed.  Oh, and did I mention all the kids have amnesia and have no idea who they are, how they got into the school, or even what is going on?  Oh, and there's a time limit, as well!  If nobody commits a murder in a set amount of time, someone will be killed anyway!  Until there are none left!

Ouran High School Host Club.  Okay, if you just want to watch something hilarious, this is your anime.  It doesn't take itself too seriously (it does have an overall plot, but most of it is dedicated simply to being as wacky as possible... and it even got some laughs from me, which is high praise since anime doesn't usually make me laugh) and revolves around a basic "harem" plot.  However, they quickly abandon the "Harem" type storyline and just engage in hijinks and crazy events as we get to know the cast.  Oh, and trust me, the cast is the most interesting part of the anime.  Especially when you get close to the end and start seeing the episodes that specifically relate to each character and how they came to be in the Host Club.  The ending is even massively satisfying.  Do yourself a favor and watch this in the subbed version.  The dubbed version butchers the absolute crap out of it.  Seriously, it does.  Like, for instance, giving the twins two separate voices, despite them being meant to be indistinguishable by any real means.  It's bad, just watch it in Subbed and not Dubbed.  You'll thank me for that.

C:  The Money of Soul and Possibility Control.  Yeah, that's a long anime name.  Think "Pokémon fights" meets "Economics lessons".  No, it's not as boring as it sounds.  The ending even blows you away.  Basically, if you liked Spice and Wolf, this is a less dry version of that without a romance subplot and taking place in modern Japan.  Only 12 episodes long, so if you manage to get halfway through it without tossing it aside, you'll enjoy the last half of it immensely.

---

Okay, that's my SHORT list.  I have seen a lot of anime.  I mean, a lot.  A metric crapload.  Most of it obscure.  Some of it, not quite so obscure.  I tried to give anime with at least English translations out there (or outright Dubs).  If you need more, drop me a PM and I'll go through every anime I've ever seen and try to drop you some more recommendations.  Be warned though, a lot of what I watch tends to be funny or romance.  Or, if not that, it tends to political intrigue in some way.

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
