I don't know if you know that some healers and the like in games get their powers from what is considered the Greater Good in their world. I know these are not called God or any of his names, so you wouldn't like them. Then, if you boil them down to what they essentially do, in my opinion, they are in line with God. They want their people to follow their teachings, help those in need, love their neighbors, whether they follow the same god or not, as long as the others do good as well. Isn't that what God wants us to do as well? (I differentiated between the fantasy gods and God with the capital G, because I don't want to upset anyone.)
Just so you know, they lose their powers if they turn away from their god. This makes me think about exorcism. Would the so-called 'exorcists' be able to do their 'job' if they didn't believe in God? I don't think so.
I agree about the black magic. In some rpg I'm working on with someone, black mages get their power from the evil side, whether they use their powers for good or evil.
(don't stone me for saying this, but sometimes like to think that ANY god out there, from Greek to Norse to whatever story you're reading is actually an aspect of God. One cannot comprehend the true form of God, so why wouldn't he 'appear' to people as a different person and dropped the practice around the Israelites back then?)
PS: I'm actually catholic, but I'm not very active in the church anymore. I'll just leave it at the fact that science happened. And the glorious creative minds of the great writers out there.
