Hi! I was just wondering if you guys could point me towards some good rpgs made in rpg maker. I've been wanting to play a new rpg but I don't know which ones are supposed to be good. Some thing non troll would be preferable, so nothing like Kanye quest or lisa please xD

An IGMC game name Einherjar is quite great also
Not RPG Maker but Kingdom of Amalur is one of best RPG i ever played maybe you should take a look

@grimf Depends on what kind of RPG Maker Games you're looking for. Are you into medieval, anime, fantasy, sci-fi, etc...?

Either way, I can list some of my favorites. A lot of them are old though:

• (RPG Maker 2003) Alter Aila: Genesis (All-time favorite. I'm a sci-fi/fantasy nut and love flashy combat, so this takes the cake.)
• (RPG Maker 2003) Ara Fell
• (RPG Maker 2003) Phantom Legacy
• (RPG Maker 2003//EasyRPG) Starless Umbra (incomplete, but good amount of gameplay time)
• (RPG Maker VXA) Pirate Rush
• (RPG Maker VXA) Rave Heart (in development, good amount of gameplay time)
• (RPG Maker MV) Gaia's Melody: Echoed Melodies (This is a commercial steam game, so if you're willing to pay 14$, then you're in for some good-quality content)

@msazako Oh sorry, yeah in hindsight I should have said what kind of rpgs I like. In recent years rpgs I really liked are the soulsborne games, fallout 4 and persona 5. As for older rpgs, I LOVE saga frontier and legend of mana to a lesser extent. If there are any games like those out there than I would want to play them for sure. Thank you for the recommendations! I will play Alter aila, Since it's your favorite and I like sci-fi as well.

@TheoAllen Ooo I loved legend of mana so maybe I will like that game. I looked it up on youtube and it's very pretty looking, just like legend of mana lol. Thank you, I will definitely play it!

@Amarok Wow, that game looks beautiful thank you, this is a great discovery for me! This is one of the prettiest looking indie games ive ever seen. I hope it plays as good as it looks.

This is a very difficult question to ask, have I played RPGs in the realms of classic RPGs? That's simple, NO!
But, Legion saga made with RPG Maker 2000 was a pretty good rpg.

(Not sure which engine to be honest) LiEat - I don't know, it's very "anime" if that makes sense. But I think the story is still worth it.

(VXAce) Hylics - It is very weird and doesn't seem to make any sense. But I also like the actual systems underneath it's claymation art style.

Also, I'd still recommend LISA. It actually tells a very serious story underneath the dark humor angle. It's no where near the same level as Kanye Quest.

(I was trying to think of a normal RPG Maker game, but then realized that all the games I like are pretty weird).

My son and I really like Rakuen and Skyborn. Both on Steam. I couldn't tell you which version of RPG Maker though. Just Started Ara Fell.

I like Waste Walkers and Dishonored. I haven't made it very far in them, but they are right up my alley for what I want to build.

Most of the recommendations so far have been for pretty generic fantasy games,a bit too boring for my liking, but since Hylics has been mentioned already I will recommend...

- Three Ghostly Roses
Seeing as you described Lisa as a troll game (wut? Its probably the most legitimately well thought out and balanced game made in the engine...) it sounds like generic games are more your thing anyway so you might not enjoy these.

A lot of these look really good but I will have to wait to play them later when I get my paycheck xD

Also Sorry if I insulted anyone when I said Lisa is troll. I didn't mean to say that it was a bad game or anything, I think that it's well made and a lot of effort went into it. It's just that it doesn't seem like a game that takes itself very seriously, and there's nothing wrong with that, but I just personally find that a big turn off. It just seems too wacky for me to enjoy it personally.

I don't know if I like generic games, I wouldn't know how to define that really. I love saga frontier, and I think it's very unconventional and unique, though it's not weird or abstract in anyway, so maybe it wouldn't qualify as a non generic game, I don't know.

How has nobody mentioned Eternal Senia yet? That one is free on Steam (just be warned... it can be emotionally triggering, though that was one of my favorite things about it... a true work of art that game is)

@aironneil I don't think LiEat was an RM game (though easily could have been!). Think I read when I played it a while back that it was made in WolfRPG.

My favourite RM game is a short game made in XP by Hirei and Sailerius called Project Eden. Post-Apocalypse done right. Idk if they've posted it here but you can find it on RMC. Not flawless by any means because it was made for a contest (and I would love it if they decided to re-release it after some extra work but almost definitely not going to happen after all this time).
