So in my game, I currently have it so you can pick your gender, between 2 skin colors, and 4 hair colors.

Now that isn't that bad, that's 16 characters. However I've decided that I actually wish to change the body of the character when they become their advanced class.

So just for the male, that's 56 possible combinations due to hair and skin color. 112 total if you include females combos.

I ask if it's possible to create a subfolder, because it will be annoying to have all 112 characters (128 if you include the originals) sitting in the same folder as everything else.

Essentially: Documents > Game > Graphics > Characters > Player

So Is this possible?

Not exactly.

There is a script that allows you to place the pictures in subfolders, but the editor cannot handle them and as a result the foldernames are converted into the filenames for the Editor controls.

Which means you have the folders for organising outside the game, but in the editor you still have to scroll through the full list.

I don't have the link to that script, it's somewhere on the master script list - I never bothered with it because it will not help with the editor lists.

NOTHING can change the editor functionality, so the picture lists for linking in the editor will remain as long as they're now.

Venka did this for her graphics resize/choosing portion of a resolution selector script: ask her how she did it.

There is no general way of accomplishing this.

There are two different problems

1. Getting the game to figure out that you want to read from a subfolder. This is possible; it is natively supported. You just need to provide the path.

2. Getting the editor to read from a subfolder. This is not possible.

The approach I use is with "hard links".

Huh. I've never seen that method before. I might use that now.

Thanks! :D

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
