What's the most important thing, high precision or a low price?
If the price doesn't really matter, the Wacom Intuos Pro M 224x140 mm is the best choice.
But if the price / rating should be balanced, then the Wacom Cintiq 21.5HD Touch 518x324 mm should be the first choice. ;) (\s/)

I would suggest tablets of other brands, like Huion's H610 Pro http://www.huion-tablet.com/product/product.php?sku=1013 for example.

Wacoms are outdated, it got this far because no other brand tried to compete with it, but now lots of tablet brands are coming out with equivalent specs at MUCH cheaper prices.

The Huion H610 has the same specs as the Intuos Pro (2048 Pressure levels), but the price competes at $80 to $499.

It seems too good to be true, and although I don't have a Huion myself because I already own a Cintiq of my own (got it before I found out about Huions. Urk.), I've read man review from artists saying it's pretty good, and I have friends that upgraded to it from Wacom Bamboos instead of going for Wacoms.

The only problem I've heard of is sometimes the drivers don't work, and it's a slight hassle to update. But apart from that I think it's worth a shot.

I recommend Intuos Pro Medium or Large if you like big surface. I use small one and absolutely satisfied with it's quality. Accuracy and speed of lines just great. I never heard about Huion H610, but I checked some reviews (feedbacks), all people just happy to have it and the price is much lower

This topic has sparked a lot of personal interest. I forgot that these things even existed and now I want one, BADLY!! xD
For my personal needs, I will be spending $250 on this: http://www.wacom.com/en-us/products/pen-tablets/intuos-pro-small
I came to my conclusion after reading a lot of reviews, product specifications, how easy to install/use, driver support, etc. for different brands and products.
The Huions looked tempting, given their low price tag, but they appear to be noisy and can be a hassle to work with different OS/programs and drivers aren't great. I'd rather pay the extra money for quality drivers, being able to flip the pen and use as an eraser, not so noisy use, easier to install/setup...
I thought about one of the lower-end Intuos products as well, but, again, I'd rather pay a little more to get more.... tilt control, bump the pressure levels from 1024 to 2048, touch controls, shortcut keys, and have a fair amount more space to work on. While the Huions offer some of these qualities, I'm still concerned about ease of install/use, driver support, and how noisy it would be.
The Cintiqs with a display start at $1000 and that is way out of my price range for something like this (my laptop cost about $250, but I'm not using it for high-end gaming or anything too crazy). There were other brands I saw for a little less, but still too high of a price for my wallet.

Hopefully you find something that will work :D

I currently have a monoprice tablet I bought for around 50.00. I have not tried the wacom tablets. For the artists here on the forum. What do you use to make your awesome characters? Is a touch display necessary since you are mostly looking at the computer screen when you draw?

I feel silly because my experience with a Cintiq was "I hate this thing" and to put the expensive device back in its box and never touch it again. It was a huge waste of money to me.

Mind you, mine was probably a junky one - but the colour display was poor, the resolution was poor, and I didn't seem to gain any advantages for switching from drawing on my regular tablet to drawing directly on the screen. (plus the amount of space required for set up was mighty unwieldy for the amount of space I had available)

Like everyone else here though, my experience with the Intuos line has always been good. Curious about this Huion brand now though, but the only brand I ever see in stores in Canada is Wacom. And I refuse to buy a tablet online every again. The first tablet I ever owned I got over the internet and it was pure trash. (I forget the brand name, but it was so long ago now, it probably doesn't exist.)

Anyway, I've got a large Intuos five, and I snagged it for pretty cheap at work because it was an older box before they rebranded it as Pro. ahaha - tiny box changes that reduce things to clearance prices are fantastic. (getting work discounts on clearance items, also fantastic) The surface area of the large is really nice. It's pretty much the same size as my laptop screen - which works out well in my head.

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
