I am Jernau Gurgeh (full name: Chiark Gevantsa Jernau Morat Gurgeh dam Hassease), I hail from Chiark Orbital and I am a player of games. I enjoy all sorts of challenges - physical, intellectual and moral - though have a particular predilection for complex multi-dimensional 4X strategy games from beyond the Culture, especially of non-Involved civilisations. I have travelled widely and have taken part in many tournaments across the inner systems, including participation in the fascinating and deadly game of Azad on Eä, the  home world of the little known Empire of Azad in the Small Magellanic Cloud.  [REDACTED:SC//AUTH^589X35\\des.FI]

Most recently I have developed a fondness for Computer Generated Role Playing Games, and to make the most of this I have entered my mind-state consciousness into Storage to enable me to live out many different lives in the datasphere in a dramatically compressed time.

The current persona I am toying with is a human-basic being called Mark, who resides in an archaic nation-state called 'United Kingdom' on a primitive non-Involved level 2 planet locally known as 'Terra' (or more commonly 'Earth' in the only language in which he is able to communicate). He is a rapidly ageing male who remembers the "golden age" of electronic video-gaming in his contemporary era/locale, such as Pong, Space Invaders and Spiky Harold on the Sinclair ZX Spectrum (ancient 8-bit game-tech).

Mark is a designer and developer of simple datasites on the pre-Ultraspace local datasphere known as 'the Web'. He also dabbles with 'art' using the abstract physical form of placing marks of pigment suspension in acrylic polymer emulsion onto cloth woven from processed plant fibres stretched upon frames made from wood (non-synthetic, farmed variant: Pinus sylvestris).

Mark has other pretensions of creativity, and wishes to engage in philosophical ideas related to existence, morality, socio-political relativism and attractive Japanese women wearing cat ears. He is therefore endeavouring to explore these themes in the medium of video games, particularly the genre known as RPGs, and has purchased the best known example of a digital tool to produce such simple entertainments, RPG Maker VX Ace.

His first project will be a short personalised adventure RPG featuring his siblings young children in the exploration of a surreal fantasy version of the remote Scottish island where they spend their Summers. Upon successful completion of this project (by the beginning of local 'end of year' stellar-cycle festive season, local deity-figure willing), he may start work on an adaptation of a science fiction novel by his favourite author, Iain M Banks, or possibly create an original fictional universe in which to empty his incoherent disordered mind.*

* 'mind', as in conscious electrical state within crenelated organic matter, not a Mind... please be aware the local system still relies on inefficient meat brains, which the Storage simulacrum emulates, neurological warts and all.

I'd love to see a game set in your own original world! If your introduction is anything to go by, it is sure to have plenty of flavor, humor, and intrigue.

Thanks for your welcome everyone, and for taking the time to indulge me in my extended greeting!

Well thank you, but I must confess my inspiration for that was the Culture novels of Iain M Banks, or rather my own slightly twisted appropriation of his themes and memes. I'm a bit of an amateur wordsmith as well as a visual 'artist' and gaming geek, but as yet I have not found a way of exploring that side of things. I've considered novels and short stories and suchlike, but that's just not appealing to me creatively and is probably not suitable for my goldfish-sized attention span.

But after playing about with RMVX Ace, I have to say I'm quite excited at being able to combine whatever talents I have with words, pictures and interactivity in an effort to produce something game-wise, without worrying too much about learning another programming language (PHP & BASIC are about the level I'm at!) or setting up a complicated game development environment.

Even if I don't use it to produce a finished game beyond my initial little project (either because I feel the format is not appropriate or is too limited) I have to say it's a great tool to mess about with and plan things out.

Nothing wrong with imitation. That takes a certain level of skill in and of itself. What artist doesn't study and make copies of Masterworks, after all? As a visual artist you know where I'm coming from. :) Even if you don't finish anything big, I still stand by my first statement and hope to see a cool demo or something from you in the future.

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
How many parameters is 'too many'??
