Two days left in the Advent! It has been such a trip. I hope everyone has been enjoying their holiday season.

Calendar Advent Day 23: Anaconda's/Monstrously Large Snakes

Because we can never have enough large sprites to terrorize the heroes with...and because maybe the Lamia was feeling lonely and needed a pet. Or there is a snake cult running amok. Or both! Whatever the case, today's drop includes a nearly full large sprite sheet of Anaconda's featured in their three primary colors found in nature and as a bonus I have included two rare colors: albino and melanism. The second sheet features the Monstrously Large Snakes, which is just the Anaconda base model without any marking for anyone that wanted them plain or to customize their own markings.

I want to take a moment to give a big shout out to @Avery for helping me with this. I struggled to get the animation right and she helped me out big time. Thank you Avery!

HAPPY HOLIDAYS, EVERYONE!

At last we have reached the final day of the Advent. It has been a long but joyous ride. So, let's jump into today's main attraction. Just as we have come to the end of this event, we too come to the end of video games, and what do we find at the end of video games except the final boss that was hinted at all the way back in the Stained Glass Knight's window...!

Advent Calendar Day 24: Lindwyrms!

For those that do not know, Lindwyrms/Lindworm/Lindwurm are a type of dragon that is found in northern and central European mythology. It is a wingless, legless serpent with an foul disposition normally found in the deep woods. To my understanding, a (in)famous Lindwyrm would be Niddhog who chews on the roots of Yggdrasil the World Tree. Speaking of World Trees, using the recent Avery's Tree Dungeon on Day 6 or Avery's Large Tree on Day 24 or even my Redwood Tile on Day 12, or really any massive tree, would be an excellent place to put this new nasty tempered monster as a mini boss, boss, or guardian! ;) Have fun with the possibilities!

I wanted to add that creating this thing was a pain in the rear. It took me over a month and three attempts before I asked the wonderful @Avery for assistance. She helped point out where I could improve on the model. After much trial and error, and what started out as being a Frankenstein edit, ended up becoming a monster made completely from scratch. As such, this terrible creature can be used in any game engine. During the final attempt at this things creation, I stripped the legs off and just worked on the movement of the serpentine body, which is why we now have the Anaconda/Monstrously Large Snakes that I dropped yesterday. (That was actually suppose to be with today's drop, but I ended up short on my Advent XP ) When it came time to add the legs back on, I ended up styling the legs after a crocodile's.

There are two sheets of recolors. The first sheet are basic colors: Brown, muted green, muted yellow, white, black, deep blue, blue, and red. While the second sheet features Chromatic Lindwyrms (similar to Chromatic Dragons from Dungeons and Dragons: Brass, Copper, Bronze, Gold, and Silver

And here are some modular eyes for anyone who wants to mess with eye colors quickly.

Merry Christmas, it's a monster! :guffaw: ( The overlords running the dungeons need presents, too. )

You've ended your calendar in great style. Your Lindwyrm is so versatile.

It's been a great calendar. Congratulations.
And a Happy Christmas to you and your family.

It is an amazing finale for sure and I love the result!
There is always a need for more serious dragons and that one is not only super cool but also very unique!
Congratulations on finishing your calendar!

My granddaughter asked for a game where she collects things, no fighting. Those beehive sprites were perfect for my Math Alchemist to collect honey. And the clouds charsets/tilesets provided another venue where she can climb her way to the stormkeeper to collect 'cloud electrons' by solving math problems using both positive and negative numbers. You made this possible and I thank you.

The rainbow and stained-glass themed charsets and tilesets are just beautiful and I'm definitely looking forward to using them someday soon. I also very much like those rolling hills which detract a bit (and that's a good thing) from the blockiness of the RTP tiles.

Having sprites that complement Thalzon's battlers was such a good idea. I hope you'll have a few more now and then.

But....

I haven't yet mentioned the star of your Advent Calendar, and I'm sure I'm in the majority here with that opinion, and that's TEACUP! Omigosh! What a delightful character. So many possibilities. I do have a question, though, and I'm a little chagrined to ask for fear of seeming to be ungrateful, but here goes. The sprites you uploaded are so tiny. Is there any way those sprites could be a full 48x48 or was Teacup meant to be pint-sized?

Happy New Year and thank you again for these beautiful Christmas gifts.

Hello @Lady_JJ! Thank you for your lovely comment. I am so sorry it took me so long to respond. It really brightened up my day when I read it and meant to put time aside to respond properly but it simply slipped my mind in the chaos of day to day.

It is so heartwarming to hear that the resources I made came in handy to make a cute collectable game for your granddaughter, moreso that it was educational. That really was so sweet!

Thalzon has a lot of amazing battlers that I want to make some on map sprites for. I have a few on my list of to-do.

Ah, Teacup! X) I have had a number of people tell me how adorable he is. I am so glad that he was such a hit! At the time I was working on him I was worried how he would be received and am glad that my worries were unfounded.

About the sprite sizes, no need to fear coming off as ungrateful. I understand that the sprites I released were small. It was my intention that Teacup be a pint-sized handheld companion when I created him. I wasn't going to make the sprites originally because I thought he would be a backpack kind of familiar, but later figured he could be used for puzzles or sneak missions if the main party was indisposed or came across a section in the game that only a tiny character could slip through. In creating his sprite I used the RTP teacups and spoons for scale.

However, after creating his pint-sized sprite I wasn't exactly excited for how it came out. Obviously it lacked detail due to its size and because of that I wrestled with whether or not I should do him full scale at 48x48. Due to time constraints during the Calendar Advent, and that I thought doing him full scale would break the immersion of scale I was going for, I left him pint sized.

All that said, I would not object to creating Teacup full scale. It was something that I really considered doing and I still feel having a full scale Teacup would enable me to capture all that cuteness in great detail. I'll just leave it up to the game designer/players why he is so big. ;D

Finally I am able to show you a bunch of maps where we used your tiles (again xD)

First massive thanks for offering them all for free, they are amazing, and your adventscalendar was a blast. As a German, Adventscalendars just have a very special place in my heart.

Whenever my gf hits a wall when it comes to mapping she scrolls through your resources and they just give her the inspiration she needs to continue. They add the little extra spice and uniqueness. Also she LOVES your mushroom men. There are tons of other maps where we used your stuff but I will just attach the newest / the ones she likes the most.

Just a short explanation:
The castle is heavily based on your castle as a base and even won second place in the picture of the year awards over at the German rpg maker forum.

The mimic tree was modified using Pandamarus tree to fit the vegtation of that special area

Thanks again and keep up the amazing work!

@coucassi - those maps are gorgeous! And congratulations on winning second place. Just wow! Thank you for sharing. Your message came at a time when I needed a pick-me-up, so again thank you for sharing. It is great to see the resources I have shared with the community getting used and that they offer such inspiration. Also a little strange only because I haven't seen anyone use them and am so use to seeing them in my own projects! XD

Hello, remember me? I was in a post asking for a wingless dragon and you gave me the option of modifying your sprite. I did a little test and would like to show and thank you. So what did you think?

Don’t forget to catch Advent Day #3 compiled right here! Hmm. Let’s make today’s question…what is your favorite dish served at your holiday dinner?
All of the male sprites in New Dawn for the are built off of the third sprite I ever made on top of the first sprite base I made nearly a year ago, and now I'm making the female sprite base, and just by virtue of the amount of elapsed time and the number of sprites I've made since then, I think I'm going to have to revise all of my male sprites at some point.
