Before I continue: I apologize for my current lack of avatar, my laptop's been messing up and I can't really do anything much except surf the web until I can use my PC in about a week.
EDIT: Ha! I fixed it! Joke's on you, laptop! >
A bit about myself/Main Introduction:
Anyways, hello, RPG Maker Web community! I guess, as mentioned above, my lack of avatar might make me look like some sort of unprofessional amateur, or some noob/newbie/new guy. I suppose everybody posting hello here with a new account does, hmm? However, I assure you that I have been working with RPG Maker for about a year and a half now, and I know a lot of its ups and downs. The only things I seem to not know about the overall features of RPG Maker is ... Shift-click mapping. Whatever the heck that is. There's probably some more smaller stuff, but they're most likely insignificant. That is, excluding RGSS/2/3, but that isn't really something I
needed as a beginner. I had bigger things to worry about, like how the heck I added stuff to the event window, because I
couldn't type in it. Hah, those were the good old days... Anyways, I've been roaming this site, RMN, and some others and only just now decided to make an account.
I enjoyed playing RPGs and such as a kid. The first one I played was
Pokémon: LeafGreen Version, but the one Adventure Puzzle RPG game thingy that really caught my eye and initiated my interest in them was
Legend of Zelda: Four Sword Advetures, which I got o my GameCube as a kid. I went on to play more
LoZ, some
Dragon Quest,
Golden Sun: Dark Dawn, some more
Pokémon games, and more recently
Tales of the Abyss. Of course, I got ahold of the latter even after I found RPG Maker, which after trying other programs that didn't exactly do the job, was like a god-send. I've been working with it in the background while doing school, playing games on things besides the computer, and other things.
Some of my other interests show my true image: A guy who has nothing better to do than sit around and do things that require no athletic ability. But maybe it's because I just think that's the most appealing activity at that point in time? Who knows? Anyways, first of all, I enjoy watching anime and reading manga. I've watched/read many in my day, and I'm still going, but I think with all the video games I've mentioned it would be overkill to start listing the 30+ anime/manga I've completed. Another favorite activity/hobby of mine is drawing. Oh, yes, the drawing. I'm a bit better on pencil and paper, but I got a drawing tablet a while back, so I'm working on digital art. I plan to make some resources and possibly release them over the forums, so look out for that. I also enjoy reading and writing. It is possibly the best way to immerse yourself completely into another world. I read fiction, obviously. I tolerate the existence of non-fiction, but I never actually
read the stuff. Blech. And now for my favorite hobby/pastime/activity/life-consuming-obsession?:
roleplaying. I started roleplaying about three years ago, and I was frankly really crappy at it. But, as I roleplayed with others and got more into reading and writing, I got a lot better at it, and it sort of became
an obsession something I did every once in a while. In fact, my character Pax was quite close to getting a girlfriend before the community I was in shut down... >-<
"A bit about myself" .. Ha, sorry, might as well make that "My Life Story and a Bag of Potato Chips"~ :3
What I Hope to Learn
Okay, so a given thing that I mentioned in the last section is shift-click mapping, which I'll probably look at right after posting this, so might as well put an imaginary check mark next to that.
The next thing I also mentioned in the last section, but it's going to be a bit more complicated. I use RMVXA, which utilizes RGSS3. I knew that stood for Ruby Gaming Scripting System, and through the description of it and some common sense, I knew it was a version/modification of Ruby, so I bought a book on basic Ruby. So now I know about variables, loops, if statements, mathematic operators, and things like that ... But then I look at other people's scripts and the default scripts in RM, and they look so different from Ruby >-< so now I just don't know what the heck to do about that particular matter.
My Horrible Tendency e-o
I get a horrible chill down my spine whenever I think of this horrible tendency that I must correct soon. You see, whenever I write something or try starting a game or any sort of project like that, I tend to rush into it without thinking. I sort of think about the world for ten seconds, slap on a random title with some random backstory in the intro that I make as I write it, and make things up as I go. Then, after a week or so, I give up on it. The game I have in mind, which I know almost nothing about yet but will flesh out the story more later this week, I am hoping to stick with and eventually make the leap and post it here on RMW (then again, isn't that what I always say? -n-). But, we'll just have to see, and I'm hoping some of you guys have tips for this.
What I Hope to Bring to the Table
Yes, there's always that question. What metaphorical pieces of food can this metaphorical diner bring to the metaphorical Dinner Table of Contribution? Well, for starters, I hope to do what we all do:
Make a game. This is a given, so I don't have to expand much on that idea.
I hope to, in the near future, make resources and distribute them on the forums. I can, at the moment, do facesets and portraits, and I'll work on making the sprites to go with them. The spriting I'll have to work on, definitely. I'm somewhat good with the facesets, the portraits I'm a bit better at, and I'm getting better quickly. So, the resources I will most definitely do within the end of this year, hopefully by the end of summer.
I also hope to, once I learn more about it, perhaps contribute some worthwhile scripts if I get a sudden great idea. However, the scripting will most likely be used mainly to better my own projects. All that will be saved for down the metaphorical road of time, I suppose.
As mentioned above, I won't have PC access for a week, which is because I am currently on vacation.
Anything to do with me making resources, beginning with scripting, or working on my project will wait until then.
Well, I guess I've made you suffer enough with this wall of text ;v;
Nice to meet you all,
Hope my long intro didn't kill you,
Really, I'm very sorry,
Hope to see you around,
Sincerely,
~KureRei
