Very Briefly, Hime has a plugin called Guest Followers, which adds actors to the party that don't participate in battle. This works as an illusion really because all we see is that the NPC is following the party members.

I want this feature for my game, but with an addition:

How would I create guest followers that add perks (perks will be anything from additional parameter boost, skill types, bonuses, etc.)

Basically when the NPC is following as a guest, those perks will be made available.

I don't know how that plugin works, but there is a way to do this with pure eventing: just whenever an event add such a guest follower, have the same event add the bonus you want.

And in the event that removes the guest follower, check which guest follower was removed and remove its bonus after that.

In addition to what Andar said, if you really want to use states:

Use yanfly's passive states and a switch for each NPC following the party.
You'll have to use a custom condition for each state, corresponding to the switch you use to tell the game that the npc is in the party.
