Sunrise and Rightstuf are working together to finally bring back Gundam to the US!

I'm not sure if some are only getting subtitles, or dubbed. Also not sure what's getting DVDs, or Blu-ray, or streamed, or whatever.

Announced so far is:

Mobile Suit Gundam (the original, coming Spring 2015)

Turn A Gundam (never been officially translated, coming Spring 2015)

Gundam: The Origin (coming with dub)

Gundam ZZ (never been officially translated)

Gundam: Reconguista in G (newest Gundam series, premiered very recently in Japan)

...and assumedly many more, maybe all??

http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2014-10-11/sunrise-partners-with-right-stuf-to-release-gundam-franchise-stateside/.79830

This is super exciting, I noticed a void in Gundam in the US for a while a now. Most of the DVDs that were released years ago are now super expensive (pretty much all Universal Century stuff)...and many series weren't ever officially dubbed or even subbed.

Any other Gundam fans here?

I love Gundam, it's one of my favorite anime series of all time. So naturally i'm quite psyched to hear about this.

Also, the reason for the void is that Bandai Entertainment, the distributor of Gundam in NA, stopped releasing content in early 2012, leading to the high prices of the DVDs.

(love the profile pic by the way)

I am not a huge fan of UC stuff (outside of war in the pocket, and 08th), but I tend to like most of the series as a whole.

Turn A is interesting, and I'm looking forward to seeing Reconguista in G since Tomino is back at the helm.

@steeltamashii: I heard about that...it's weird though. Lots of the DVDs were about $50 MSRP. The UC ones are about quadruple that, while G and Wing seem to be less! That's what is curious about that.

(Thanks! It almost looks like a Gundam, doesn't it? But no, it's Probotector from Contra)

@Touchfuzzy: I'm actually barely experienced with UC at all, but I did see 08th MS Team and it was great! That's one reason I'm so hyped though, to see the ones I missed, and one's that will in the US for the first time.

I wonder if anyone else here has any Gundam model kits? Another reason this gets me excited is because the more shows I watch, the more model kits will be familiar to me. Sure, I've gotten a few that I'm not familiar with, but it's not the same! The HGUC line in particular is pretty cool, but since I'm so unfamiliar with UC as a whole, it's not as relevant to me...Oh, wouldn't it be great if a bunch of stores in the US carried Gundam model kits again. I remember buying some HGUC and I think Master Grade kits at normal stores like Target, or Toysrus.

I'm actually really excited about all of this! I've been noticing Barnes & Nobles around my area are carrying more gundam model kits. Even the hobby shops have more in stock lately. The prices are still ridiculous, and it's still cheaper to order online in bulk but I think this is a sign that Gundam may succeed in the west (hopefully). Before I went to college, my brother and I used to build gunpla almost every other week. So if you've got any modelling questions, feel free to ask!

I've been a Gundam fan all my life, to the point where I can name practically all the UC Zeon mobile suits... And with ZZ finally being translated that'll bring all of UC to the West once and for all. But Turn A raises an eyebrow for me. It's a weird show, something that not many people would actually enjoy, especially if the dub is horrible. But I'm glad G Reco and Origin are coming to the west, those will probably air on Toonami and make it a huge hit.

We can never have enough UC Gundam: too bad we got almost none of them in France... At least we have the movie compilation of 0079 though, with some Wing and Seed but it's not the same thing, particularly for the former; and a pair of mangas too, Ecole du Ciel and The Origin, although their release is slooow.

I watched Unicorn lastly, and it was great: solid story all along, with strong "philosophic" points as well as interesting characters, and a very good animation – I strongly recommend it to anyone who didn't watch it yet.

I have yet to see Build Fghters: this will occupy me while Reconguista gets finished – Tomino's back = win!

I liked Unicorn pretty well, but I just have to ask: What were they thinking when they named Full Frontal?!

@Touchfuzzy Yea, they definitely didn't brand test that name beforehand. I actually thought my friends were kidding when they told me his name was actually Full Frontal.

@Probotector200X Originally I thought it was a Patlabor until i noticed your name on your post. XD

@Yonma: My brother and I used to buy and build Gundam model kits quite often too! He focused on 1/144 Gundam Wing kits, while I focused on 1/144 G Gundam kits. We both have quite a few HGUC kits too. Oh, and I have a few Master Grade kits too. (in case you are wondering: Zaku 2 F2, Shining Gundam, Gundam Spiegel, Master Gundam, and a God Gundam which I have yet to build, so...still focusing on G Gundam, heh.)

Now I'm curious, what kinda kits do you have?

@steeltamashii: I'm not familiar with Patlabor, but wow, the resemblance is uncanny. Probotector also resembles Briareos from Appleseed. Probotector started as a creative "censoring" of the Contra guys, so I guess they didn't have to be too original. Still looks cool though...

Turn A is definitely a bit different from most Gundam shows, but it's kind of refreshing to see that kind of take on a Gundam show. It's what I'd imagine a Gundam show directed by Miyazaki would be like.

Turn A's definitely my favorite: best Gundam, best Tomino, best anime. So much that I couldn't even find the words to describe why...  :D

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
