Hello everyone! I made the game with RPG Maker MV and it is the first game I ever truly finished. There might be some fixes to be made but the newest version is going to be called a complete version of the game.

Updated to version 1.6!

Longer the wait, bigger the changes!

I added a more interesting intro, changed some system sounds, added a changing weather after a certain time, made an icon for the game, added text to some random interactive objects and removed the lore books and other unimportant stuff from the game. If you're interested about the lore you can read it below. I also removed the other city Valinnor from the game, you can now only see the soldiers at the gates telling that you cannot pass. I planted some of the stuff from Valinnor to Easthold and added a few new things to the city.

Game details:

Setting:

Land known as Haldornia, Capital city Easthold, Desert city of Valinnor and the surrounding areas. This world has two moons. It is relevant to the story.

Story:

Two characters, Leon and Jack, who'll have to gather mages for a task of utmost importance. They have to stop the Moonfall. Evil cult known as the Order of the Revenant have brought the end of the world at our doorstep. They made the moon fall. In my other game, Haldornia, the heroes are pursuing the Order when they find out about their plan. In that story they are told about an ancient machine that creates gravitational pulses that keeps the other moon from falling to the earth. That moon is known as the Traveler. Long ago for reasons unknown, a moonlike object was speeding towards our planet. Back then the people were not so advanced as they are today. History from those days are scarce and incoherent. But scholars of today have found out that people of that time got help from sources that are still under debate. Only one thing is clear. The machine that holds the moon in the sky is not from this world.

The point is, the otherwordly machine has a power source. The Order of the Revenant found the machine and stole the power source. They found out about this from their leader, an undead sorcerer king of the days past. Apparently he was in some way associated with the events of the Traveler that was going to obliterate our planet. He didn't agree with the other leaders and went to war. He lost that war and his soul was cursed forever. Unknown to the other leaders of that time was that the Order had a way to bring back life... in a way. To this day the undead sorcerer has plotted against the people of Haldornia and just lately he found the machine. In the game Haldornia, the heroes went after them but got locked up in their prison..

After a while the people who knew about the moon's falling made up a plan. And that is what this game is about. You must collect all the mages you can find, and blast the moon with so massive magical power that has never seen before.

Story driven adventure, only a little of fighting. There's only one fight. There will be a time limit in the game. Within that time you must get enough people to follow your cause, but the thing is that you will never know what's enough until the very end. This game has a secret ending! Can you find it?

Lore books:

Battle of the Haldorn Bridge

Many years ago, Howard Haldorn planned the defensive

structures for the bridge that connects the two largest

landmasses of Haldornia. Ten huge walls were built

along the bridge. All this was because of the goblin

army that was quickly growing in the wastelands to the

north. Presumably over twenty thousand goblins attacked

the Haldorn Bridge, with them were dozens of huge

spiders, Wolf riders, and heavily armored half orcs.

The first wall fell quickly. The goblin horde attacked

in the middle of the night without warning. No one

noticed before it was too late. The first wave of

goblins wielded magical trinkets that shrouded them

in darkness. First hour of the battle was a massacre.

The first wall was blown to pieces by goblin sappers.

The second wall fought back as long as they could. In

two hours the defenders of the second wall were slain.

The third wall had time to prepare. They planted traps

and bombs that cut down many goblins and one of the

giant spiders. Soon enough the third wall fell as the

goblin diggers got through the wall and the half orcs

poured trough the holes.

The fourth wall didn't do too well. Their morale was

blown away as the goblin army marched trough the first

three walls. The defenders didn't have a chance.

Sunrise.

At the fifth wall the mages of Haldornia got to show

their power. They rained fire on the attackers all day

long! But as night came again, the leader of the goblin

horde herself appeared for the first time. She was a

powerful witch and she cast a spell that prevented the

defending mages from using any spells. They were all

quickly cut down shortly after.

The sixth wall was protected by the paladin force.

They lasted long and managed to kill many of the most

dangerous foes. Alas, they were too defeated during

the night.

The seventh wall fought well as the sun rose again.

About half of the attacking horde was slain at this

point. There was still a huge force to defeat. The

rest of the giant spiders were slain during this

battle but the defenders couldn't hold the goblin

riders when they charged through the wall when holes

were blown in it.

The eight wall. No defenders. Only bombs. When there

was enough goblins on the bridge at the eight wall, it

was intentionally blown up trying to take as many

goblins with it as possible. Thousands of goblins died

because of this and the defenders were celebrating.

The ninth wall was protected by knights of the Empire

with the help of the defenders from the eight wall.

The Empire had sent a great number of forces to help

Haldornia in their time of need. This was the moment

when the long war between the Empire and Haldornia

finally ended. They fought side by side against the

common enemy, but were forced to retreat to the final

wall. A powerful wizard allowed the defenders to

regroup as he cast an inpenetrable shield for a while.

The tenth wall, final battle. Here the most elite

forces of both Haldornia and the Empire joined to fight

off the remaining goblin forces led by none other but

Howard Haldorn himself! This final battle was long and

tiring but the defenders were able to finish off the

attacking goblins. Somewhere along the fight the witch

leader of the goblins had a duel against Howard. The

crooked witch was suprisingly agile and wielded her

staff with amazing skill. She was a dangerous match for

Howard but he managed to cut off her hand! That was the

moment when victory was assured, as the witch fled.

After the battle, Howard Haldorn was seen as the

greatest hero of Haldornian history forever.

The goblin witch was never seen or heard of again. Some

believe she still lives somewhere in the wasteland to

the north, planning a revenge against the Haldornian

people.

Dragonrest, The Wasteland of the North

Dragonrest got it's name from all the dragon bones in

the area. King's of the days past killed most of the

dragons in that area and only their bones remained.

The wasteland is a desolate and dangerous place. It is

known to contain goblins and giant spiders and many

other beasts of the wilds. Dragonrest was the place

where the goblins raised an army to fight the people

of Haldornia.

Back in the days past, Dragonrest wasn't a wasteland.

Only when the Kings of those times decided that dragons

are too dangerous to be left alone, they went to kill

them all. The dragons were angry and burned most of the

land turning it into a wasteland. The Kings didn't care

about the land burning, their only focus was to deal

with the dragons.

There has been rumours about some dragons still living

in Dragonrest, but most of them were heard from rangers

thought to have gone crazy in the loneliness of the

wasteland. They claim to have heard roars of dragons

in the night...

The Undead Sorcerer King

There once lived an evil sorcerer that wanted to rule

all of Haldornia. He raised an army of demons and the

undead to fight the kings of the days past. The evil

sorcerer was a serious threat to the people so the

other kings united their power and bested the evil

sorcerers otherwordly forces. The sorcerer was beheaded

and his body was buried somewhere deep in the desert

of the dead kings.

Many years passed and then the minions of the sorcerer

finally found his tomb. The sorcerer was resurrected

as a lich and he then was an even more dangerous foe

than before.

The sorcerer crowned himself as the king of the desert.

He raised thousands of monsters, demons and the undead

to do his bidding. But it still was not enough to

defeat the united forces of the kings of the days past.

The evil sorcerer king was once again defeated in a

battle at the gates of Valinnor.

The once again slain sorcerer's body was then cut to

pieces and each piece was sent to the each corner of

the desert to serve as a warning to the minions of

the sorcerer. This was the time when the Order of the

Revenant was born. Successor to the sorcerer was found

and he claims the desert as his own even to this day...

Haldorn Family

The Haldorn Family is the greatest and oldest of the

families in Haldornia. They are so old that the land

and various places were named after them! Howard

Haldorn is one of the most famous members of the

family. He died peacefully to old age.

The family has since spread across the planet, even

to the Empire. After Howard died, there was no clear

relative to continue the family name. Haldorn name is

now only a legend but their blood continues to run in

several families...

The Empire

The Empire lies far to the west across the sea. Long

before Haldornia was it's own kingdom, the Empire sent

criminals and exiles to the lands of Haldornia. It took

a long time before the kingdom rose. The Empire and

Haldornia were at war many times. The last war with

Haldornia ended ten years ago. Ever since relations

between the two lands have been cold, and there has

been some reports lately about Empire scout parties

in the wilderness. No one have been able to confirm

this though, but tensions have been rising. We can

only hope that a new war doesn't break out...

The Days Past

History before Haldornian kingdom is known as The Days

Past. Information about that time is scarce and

incoherent. Most of the scriptures are thought to be

made by madmen. There are some things we have been able

to confirm.

Firstly, there was a civilized kingdom of

sorts. We've found many tombs of kings from that time.

That's why the desert is known as the Desert of the

Dead Kings. In those days the desert was a fertile

land with many rivers and tropical vegetation.

We also were able to find remnants of a great city

deep in the forests to the north. There we found many

scriptures about The Days Past. Some were weird texts

about some people of the sky. Some were drawings of

otherworldly machines. We have since been unable to

find any of the things mentioned.

Some dark day the people of The Days Past seemed to

have disappeared. No texts mentioned anything about

the people being in danger of any sort. One day they

were just... Gone. After a thousand years, the first

exiles of the Empire were sent to the land. Many years

after that, the kingdom of Haldornia was established...

The Monsters of the Desert

The Desert of the Dead Kings is a dangerous place at

best. It is the home for many kinds of mutated monsters

and beasts.

One of the most renowned beast of the desert is the

Desert Reaper. It is a hulking monster, much larger

than any man, with sharp claws and teeth able to cut

trough almost anything. Encountering a Desert Reaper

has been the last thing for many people in the desert.

Most common monster of the Desert is the Sand Worm.

Crawling in tunnels miles long beneath the desert, the

Sand Worm seeks meat to devour. They suprise their prey

by quickly jumping out of the sand and catching small

animals with their spiky mouths. A Sand Worm digests

the prey in their stomach for a week. The animals they

catch die in horrible pain that lasts for hours. The

Sand Worms usually avoid humans, but they have been

occasionally known to have attacked people.

The Shrieker is a terrible monster of the desert. Seen

only at night, they approach their foes silently and

quickly. If they get close enough, they cry out a

terrible scream, making your eardrums burst. Then they

jump at you and start stabbing you with their needle

like nails. Most people survive the encounter though,

as the Shrieker is a fragile monster. Most times they

just play with you, make you fear them, hurt you a

little, and when fought back, they usually flee. If

killed, their bodies turn to dust...

Progress so far:

First day of the event was absolutely amazing. I got this great idea and jumped into the Rpg Maker MV and started making what I had in mind. I was staring the screen literally nonstop for about 9 hours straight I think. 5 minutes of gameplay was all I managed to get done but I think it looks good.

I got an idea for the project from my other larger project that is still in progress, named Haldornia. (Which is the name of the land also.) I hadn't figured out the ending for it yet but with this event I started thinking about how I could fit Haldornia's story into this game and I came up with this idea: The game I'll make for this game making challenge happens from another viewpoint. In Haldornia the heroes are supposed to stop a certain event from happening. But they get into trouble along the way and the people can't just sit by and let the upcoming event occur. So that is what this new game is all about. The people can't trust their heroes to do what they were meant to do and come up with a desperate plan to try and stop the event before it happens. That means this game will happen simultaneously with the final hour of the events of Haldornia game.

I made some finishing touches on the beginning of the game, which I love, just can't stop playing it again and again. :D  I started making the capital city in a lot smaller scale than it is in the other game. Haldornia is being made with Rpg Maker VX Ace by the way, so I had to copy the world map tile by tile to MV. It's still not quite done but we are getting there. The point in my new project is not to go so far away from the capital city though so I can focus on a much smaller area of the world map so I won't worry about that too much. And I think that is about all I've made so far. I think I've made pretty good progress.

I'll be posting more later! :)

Progress update: Feb 17, 2016

Today I did a lot of work on the capital city (Easthold) I added some simple quests and one fight that where consequences vary on if you win or lose. There wont be a lot of fighting in the game, as it will be a story driven adventure, and i was thinking about adding only a couple of fights.

I'll try to do as varied quests as I can, as there is one main quest you have to achieve and to do that you will have to convince a lot of people to join your cause to succeed. Some people might just join you when you tell them what's going on. Some need a little more work to add them to your troops.

Main plot of the game focuses on mages. You will need a lot of mages. That's what you'll be gathering in the game. All the mages you can find. I will tell you later what you need them for but it's big.

Progress update: Feb 18, 2016

I pretty much finished the exterior of the Capital city Easthold. Interiors are about 50 percent ready. I've been doing some adjusting of the events and the timer checking. (Yes, there is a time limit from the beginning of the game and yes you will instantly fail it reaches zero.) There is a cutscene where something bad happens to everyone and it's game over.

I've been doing more npcs and to interact with everyone you must in some cases talk to someone else before you can talk to them and some need special items to unlock specific dialogue and areas. There will be a secret ending in the game and you must do a lot of work if you were to get it in the end.

Progress update: Feb 19, 2016

Today I got 100 percent of the interiors of Easthold done. Next thing I'm doing is an underground area and then I have another city and two small towns to make. I don't want to rush anything so I'll just make the places as good as I can but I have to see how much really can be done in the game within one hour, without just skipping trough all the conversations. The other city might have a lot less to do than the capital city. Maybe most of the city is closed down because of monsters attacking from the desert. I'll probably go with that.

I added more npcs and some quests. This project is going to involve a lot of testing to see how all of the different outcomes in quests fit together. Making the ending is going to be fun because there will be several possible endings.

Progress update: Feb 21, 2016

I made lot of progress with npcs and quests. Gameplay length to do everything goes to about 20 to 30 minutes.

Progress update: Feb 23, 2016

Easthold is ready! I've added all the npcs and quests and all the interiors are complete! There still might be some tweaking to do but I'll have to test it out some more. I built the ending scenario already, where the outcome depends on the amount of mages gathered. Now to make the other city...

Progress update: Feb 25, 2016

Next I started to make the city of Valinnor. It's in the edge of  the deserts, where all sorts of evil creatures lurk. Valinnor is the guardian city of the rest of the Mainland, as the only way to get to the desert and back is trough Valinnor. The way is otherwise blocked by a huge wall of mountains.

Progress update: Feb 26-29, 2016

Past few days have been slower. I finished Valinnor exterior, made some npcs and started working on the interiors and chose some music and plugins that work well with my game.

Progress update: Mar 1-8, 2016

This week was just polishing, polishing and some more polishing, making sure that everything works, all that yada yada. I linked the download for the beta version of the game.

Progress update: Mar 9-10, 2016

Making some fixes, editing some small parts of buildings and such. Tuning out some stuff. I also updated the screenshots just now.

Progress update: Mar 11, 2016 GAME COMPLETED

Did the finishing touches on the game and now it is complete! There might be some minor things that need fixing but the newest version is 1.0 This is the first game i finished! I hope everyone likes it  :)

Progress update: Mar 13, 2016 Updated to version 1.1

I fixed some spelling errors and a few other things that needed fixing and added something extra to the secret ending!

Progress update: Mar 14, 2016 Updated to version 1.2

Made just some simple fixes.

Sounds prettty cool, it kind of reminds me to the gathering of troops in the original Dragon Age. Good luck with your project!

Seems very promising. I like how you tiled the carpet in the church to be the shape of a cross. Very nice touch! I cannot wait to see the finished product :D

Going trough the (atleast) 653 songs I've purchased as dlc for Rpg Maker... Time to choose the music for my game! :guffaw: This might take a while...

I made some finishing touches to the game and now I can call it completed!  :D  This is actually the first project with RPG Maker MV I made, and the first game I ever finished properly! So yeah there might be some small details that need fixing but I think It's very much complete trough hours and hours of testing and tuning.

Congrats on your first finished game!  I played it, and it boils down to a giant fetch quest.  And guess what?  I enjoyed it.  It has a nice mix of just locating and speaking to mages to get their help, and locating certain things to talk people into giving you their help.  It doesn't seem like there's much to it at first, but there's quite a bit under the surface.  I know I must've missed some mages, and maybe I'll play again to try to get them all (how many are there, by the way?).  I wasn't happy about there being a time limit in the beginning, since I often have to jump up and leave my computer, but I ended up finishing with plenty of time to spare so it actually was a decent move to give me a sense of rush.  I got a few different endings, which was a nice touch.

The only problems I found were spelling errors, one of the big ones being 'through' spelled 'trough'.  I didn't find any game-breaking bugs, so good job with that.  Overall this was a fun little game.  :)

@hiddenone Thank you for your feedback! It's nice to hear that you liked my game :)  English is not my native language so there might be some errors, I'll try to find and fix them soon! I will not tell how many mages there are yet, I might even add some more if it seems like everyone's finishing the game with a lot of extra time.

An okay first (I think?) game. Could have been a bit shorter an snappier, the second town and mage sewer felt overdone and everyone kept talkign abotu backstory for a game we do not know so that kind of fell flat. Overall it was okay. Nothing glorious, nothing hideous. Congrats on finishing!

Working on playing these birthday bash games on my free time. Yesterday I played Haldornia Moonfall. It was okay but all the backstory characters kept mentioning felt flat and I wanted to explore more in town but there were no quirky active objects. (like checking a painting or a sink. ) The lore books were okay a tad long though.  It could've been broken up over several 'volumes' to give an illusion of landing on a random page (like history of the Haldornian empire volume 8 or something).

Was there a set number of mages one supposed to get? I had 193 (i think) and the rite was successful but the endgame felt meh. It wasn't too interactive.

Overall interesting concept

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
