People who march for the freedom of speech thing on the internet, just want to be able to be an rear end in a top hat to everyone. Much like how someone will say something insulting, and based on your reaction, will say "it was just a joke! Why can't you just take a joke!?"

Words have meaning, and sometimes, it's best to censor those words when we know it will only cause hurt. Hence the fact that a well moderated community is a much nicer place to be, than say Reddit or 4Chan for example.
As much as I hate death threats and the like,  censorship can be a slippery slope.  After all, who gets power over what can be said or not?

I really dislike the censorship of info on WWII.  It is causing some people to say the massacre of Jews never happened and it is just hate against the Germans to say such a thing (I was shocked watching what some people were saying).

Do people not realize the dangers of not knowing history (it will repeat itself if not careful).  I mean, every country has done evil things in the past, but it should not be covered up (to learn from it).

There's a difference between institutional censorship and moderation on a website. You can't equate the two. A website is essentially private property, and the people who run it have the right to rule against content they disagree with. That's very different from the government dictating what you can and cannot say.

I know that is true, but that would be the only way to stop websites like reddit from existing.  With freedom of speech, the good has to be taken with the bad.  The best way to deal with bad forums is not to go to them honestly.

Precisely. Do not engage. If you try and stamp out the trolls, they'll only rear up their pathetic snouts and come back uglier than before.

Fight back by being awesome and ignoring them. Should you have kids, make sure to teach them the right way to treat people. The poison will eventually wither and die.

To share a snippet of life for you all:

The last two boyfriends my sis had, whom she met online, accused her of being a guy with a voice modulator because she refused to give them a picture of herself before she was comfortable doing so.

I guess a girl is no longer allowed to be careful in a dangerous world where pretty women get targeted by stalkers.

Speaking of words, these guys professed their undying love and all that smooth, flowery trash; case in point for when words are merely hollow lies with hope to get that one thing you're not being given.

I've been on cutthroat bars and even slums that are nicer places to be in than, say reddit of 4chan.

There is a huge difference between holocaust denial (which is illegal in a lot of European countries by the way), and not letting people use slurs against others.

We're not eradicating free speech, we're just moderating what's allowed to be said on our forums, and we have the right to do that. You have the right to say what you want, and we have the right to listen to that or not.

Even Reddit is doing that nowadays, what with banning a subreddit known for hatred of overweight people. Even they don't want that kind of toxicity on their hands.

And when reddit bands subreddits that suck and are toxic (I mean, more toxic than they generally are), they get bad press and "CEO"s quitting and drama.

Ellen Pao was just a glass cliff scenario (have her as CEO, roll out a bunch of changes, then 'fire' her after all the bad things have been said and done and blame it all on her). But I digress, this is getting off topic.

I will say that while Reddit as a whole sucks, there are plenty of subreddits that are actually quite nice. Its a big site, and the level of moderation really depends on what subreddit you are in. The big ones are terrible though.

Was this a trick question? The Internet is friendly to no one!
Take a blue pill, and you too can live in a fantasy land where the internet is friendly to everyone. ;)

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
