Hello all!

I have been writing a few tracks for a game that I've been working on, and am looking to buff out my portfolio of works. It's great experience to write a large number of pieces, and I particularly enjoy writing while having a pre-existing restriction, eg. instruments, style, mood already chosen for me.

With that in mind, I thought I would see if there were any requests for custom music for non-commercial games. Track lengths would be 1.30-2.00 minutes, although longer could be possible with significantly more time.

If you would like anything written, please make a post outlining:

Purpose of track

Is it a battle theme, a character theme, or game over music? For characters, some information about them and any images you have would be useful.

Mood of track

Is it uplifting, depressing, or supposed to create a sense of tension?

Any specific style you want

Orchestral, heavy, electronic (that would be new for me!), or perhaps a folk song?

Any specific instruments you want

If you desperately want a rock organ, bagpipes and triangle solo, let me know!

Here are the completed tracks so far:

Dusklight Duel

Requested by Noctis.

A battle track written in the style of Final Fantasy XV.

Lilith's Lullaby

Requested by HeroTheWorldCreator

A 'gothic' battle theme. This track uses a few existing melodies put into minor keys to create a somewhat haunting sound, and handbells to create a church bells effect.

The Intrepid

Requested by NeoFantasy

A unique boss battle for a fight between two siblings. Instrumentation is orchestral with electric guitar/bass and fairly heavy drum kit.

For any tracks used, please credit me as Andrew MacKenzie. If you want to hear any tracks or any of my work for my own game, just check out my soundcloud page :)

You're taking request for free? Is it possible if you can make a battle theme with the same mood and style as this or this? It's the FFXV battle theme day and night  :)

Sure thing :)  hadn't heard any music from FFXV yet, but I particularly like the night battle track. Would this be your general battle theme?

Yay! I'll look forward to it! Possibly or maybe just for epic bosses?  :)

It's done! Hopefully you should be able to download it directly from soundcloud, but if not I can do a dropbox or something.

Hello HatJump! Those are some really good pieces! Mind if I make a request?

I'm looking for battle theme for my game. Specifically a boss battle between two siblings who were once close, but due to different ideals have been forced apart.

The track should carry a heavy feel to it, as neither one of them wants to fight the other, but neither one can avoid it.

As for the instruments... maybe something like symphonic rock?

:)

@NeoFantasy Hey! Thank you :)  there are plenty that didn't turn out quite so well :p

Sure thing - boss battles tend to take a bit longer, but I should have a chance to work on it over the weekend.

I shall keep you posted :)

Purpose of track

A character exclusive boss theme, though I have yet to obtain/draw/find/create/buy/commission/request/whatever a picture of the character this theme belongs to, it is for a gothic lolita.

Mood of track

Something that starts off with a slow, creeping intro, with a tempo that quickly accelerates into the main song. Something that gets across the feeling you're aware that who you're fighting is dangerous, and it fills you with despair, but when the song speeds up the full weight of the situation finally sets in, a song that screams "fight or flight."

Any specific style you want

A Gothic battle theme.

Any specific instruments you want

I'd like for the intro to have an instrument (probably drums) or group of instruments whose sounds you could make into a musical emulation of a heart-beat. Additionally, I'd like violins and possibly piano to play a prominent part in the main song.

@HeroTheWorldCreator Hi! Sounds pretty interesting - I'll give it a go! :)

Haven't done creepy/despair music yet, so that'll be a fun one :D

Thank you very much. And I do hope you have fun composing it, very much so. There's no point in doing something like this -- as in, this thread, or those like it -- and not having fun with it. It'd be a waste of time if it was an unpleasant experience, right?

@HeroTheWorldCreator So I'm hoping this is roughly what you had in mind - in stead of actually changing the speed of the music I just made the texture 'busier', which usually gives the same effect and helps to loop things overall.

Let me know if you think it's fit for purpose anyway! I maybe enjoyed writing it a little too much :D

@NeoFantasy It's done! I tried to make the music emotive, but sound determined and driven. Hopefully this is vaguely what you had in mind! I've put all the finished tracks up at the top of the post so they're easier to find.

It is absolutely spectacular, and exceeded even my loftiest expectations. I'm quite surprised, and impressed, so much so I may have to keep returning to you for my entire soundtrack.

@HeroTheWorldCreator I'm glad you like it! It was serious fun to write :D  If you have any more requests do go ahead and throw them my way - I wouldn't mind something that isn't a battle theme at the moment though!

@HatJump Perhaps I could trouble you for a Menu Theme?

Of course, the standard composition for a menu theme. I'd like it for it to give somewhat of a sense of adventure, yet at the same time have an equally prominent mysterious tone that expresses the mystically arcane that surrounds the various supernatural -- something that combines a sense of the vast, observable natural world, giving way for knowledge as to the true nature of the magical of the world. As if the song was expressing that the natural and supernatural aspects of the world are a single entity.  ...If my description makes sense at all. I may have tried too hard to sound deep.

@HeroTheWorldCreator I can give it a whirl! Perhaps I'll focus on the idea of a mysterious sense of wonder?

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
