Hello everyone, and welcome to the official forum page for the maiden project of Charred Fur Studios, "Haven's Embers"! I've been around the community for quite awhile now, and while I've participated in (and started entirely too many unfinished projects to count), I have yet to complete a full game project as the solo dev. With Haven's Embers I mean to change that, and want to include you all in the amazing journey to come. Please stay tuned to updates on this page, as well as our Twitter account (@Charredfur)
As a small aside, I've also decided to create a novelization of this story to run parallel to the game's development. This will allow me to better flesh out the characters and story, etc. I do, however, recognize that not everyone wants to have everything spoiled for them, so I'll include the link to that page below, for anyone who'd enjoy that.
Thanks so much for all of your support. Really looking forward to seeing this one progress.
Feel free to check out our Discord for a more in-depth experience into the project and studio behind it.

When Midgard (the world of men) was still young, the God Loki sired a son - the great wolf, Fenrir. Fearful of how powerful the beast would become, Odin and the other Gods contrived of a trick to ensnare the wolf, and leave him chained for all time. The Gods were content in their decision, for they knew if Fenrir were to ever gain his freedom, his need for retribution would bring about the Ragnarok, and the end of days. Fenrir's own children, Skoll and Hatti, fought in vain to save their father from his eternal confinement, but were ultimately imprisoned themselves. And so it was, and so it is.
Haven's Embers follows Eona, a young Viking slave girl that struggles to come to terms with her past, her future, and the drums of war that beat incessantly in her heart, driving her to some distant battlefield. Thrust into an conflict as old as time itself, can a daughter of man rise to the occasion and prevent the end of days? Or, will she succumb to the bitterness of hate and regret that can sour the hearts of all living things?

Haven's Embers will feature many custom mechanics that will be listed here as they are in development:
1. Hnefatafl Minigame!
Hnefatafl was a table game played by the Viking people for centuries. It lost popularity with the advent of Chess in the 8th century and was nearly lost to time, but, we're going to help it make a comeback! You will have the opportunity to face a multitude of optional NPC Hnefatafl players throughout the game world. With each victory, you will gain a custom King game piece to prove your status. Collect them all for a unique in-game item!
2. Chrono Trigger-styled battle combos!
One of my favorite mechanics from games of old was the ability to perform different kinds of unique combos in combat. Depending on who you paired, the attack chains were potentially devastating, and were just visually awesome.
There will be more to come, but this is what we're cooking up for you right now. Stay tuned!

None of what we're doing would be possible without contributions from these amazingly talented people. We'll update this section as development continues, but be sure to click on the links and check out their works!
