I'll take about it, as a guy I see him as some sort of homer able swords master from some lost mountain clan or something, as a girl I see her as a sell sword looking for a way to make a living and nothing more.

Well, to me, i think im gonna use Hayatemaru as sort of a dimension traveler. HE.... will come from the "other place" looking to save the "princess" who fled to the story world, in gets caught up in the main plot !

Looks like a dude to me, but simple solution if you want it to be a girl is to edit it and make a female version if it isn't already one.

Just pretend Hayatemaru is pretending to be male the same way you can pretend Dilara is actually a pervy mage who decided to put a spell on himself to become a woman or got turned into a woman as a punishment. They're sample characters we can use and they don't have determinable personalities besides what we see. Anyway, the NRA is kind of a good thing for those who pre-ordered and want to see everything for themselves.

My answer is this: they are cookie cutter character with a background that can be defined as create your own. That's why it's called RPG Maker, Guess-the-gender-game Maker although you could make a Guess-the-gender-game. As they are by default, they don't have naked sprites so we can't check. Only a few RTP sprites have visible breasts.

It's a boy, but I will admit it has it's share of feminine traits ('dem eyes). He kind of reminds me of the Female Bushis in Etrian Odyssey 4.

I'm just saying that there is no reason that it couldn't be a female. Perhaps if enough people would like an official female Hayatemaru I will make one. I'm considering doing it anyways.

I'm not entirely sure as of yet, I'm experimenting with some ideas. I want to do justice to the Hayatemaru ninja clan. I do have a habit of drawing them quite large though. This I am guilty.

The 4th cover art character girl is actually Rob. What? It's a little orange alien creature. Why assume the weird little cute thing is male? Why would an alien having a human male name imply it's male??

Besides, Aldo, Gustave, Hayatemaru, and "Samurai dude" all have swords or blades in the cover art. 4 guys, all have swords. 4 girls, none have swords. Typical JRPG!

I think it's whatever gender you want it to be, being that the user is the one who will decide who each character is. Just like you could argue Aldo is biologically female if you really wanted to. I don't think it really matters anyway unless it's integral to the story you plan to use them in.

Breasts don't make a woman, flat chests don't make a man. It's entirely subjective, especially in the context of RM resources.
