Haden, a young man born practically a slave is living in the city of New Helix. Every child is born with an Aura and every child is born with an elemental component to their Aura as well. Some are Fire or Water and others are Earth or Wind however, any adept can learn the arts of Light and Darkness. Haden however was not only born with a very small Aura but was also born with no elemental component. It never developed as an early child, either. He is the weakest link in the world. Unable to fight in combat or remove dangerous monsters from travel routs, Haden cannot work the harder jobs that pay more so he is not able to take care of himself or live in a home he can pay for. This is where Aria comes in.
Aria, a childhood school friend, though tough on Haden is also loving of Haden and wants to protect him. While he works the minor jobs for extra food and resources, Aria primarily takes care of the big things in Haden's life, like shelter and materials. Haden would one day travel to the jobs station where the Captain no longer wishes to pay Haden for basic things that they send children to do for free. Cleaning, taking packages and helping elders up some stairways, it was no longer for him. The Captain demands that Haden do something harder for his pay. He sends him forward to the town fields to kill some slimes to obtain slime goo for potion brews. Haden has never been trained to wield a weapon or even how to use it properly. It was his first time to taste blood. Nervous at first, he hesitates to accept but ultimately takes the offer for increased pay to please his Master and Friend Aria. He would finally accomplish something bigger in life and slay his first monster.
He succeeds in his slaying of the slimes and obtains copious amounts of slime goo, even impressing the Captain with the amount he obtains thus being granted the title "Slime Bane". The bullies laugh at him and pick on him for his title as they all have slain a slime before. Haden was excited that he could do it. Even though it was just a slime, he could kill something dangerous! He is then asked by the captain the next day to embark in the underground of New Helix and clean out all of the Magic Bats while Aria went to clean out the Super Spiders in North New Helix for a much larger pay. She was part of an elite squad that Haden could only dream of being a part of. Not only did Haden clean out the bats, but he did it quickly and with precision. It was impressive to his Captain. Even though elementally and aura wise Haden was weak, he had an amazing stamina, was swift and had a natural gift for the sword that was never seen before. His title was upgraded to the Reaper..... progressing on....
Haden had gone to bed alone that night as Aria did not return. The following day, still no return and same for the day to come. Confused, he ventures to the Labor Station and asks about his Master. No one would tell him a word about anything. He was clueless, short for words as what possibly could be going on. Everyone looked sick to their gut whenever he mentioned her name. It scared him. Thinking she might be hurt or dead, he runs to the neighboring medic station asking for his Master. The clerks look worried and tell him that she is in quarantine to be isolated away from people without "the infection". He was confused, he did know what they were talking about. "The Infection". It would ring in his head, over and over. It drove him to insanity. He in anger charges the guarded doors of the quarantine rooms and breaks through to find his Master unconscious with her veins bulging from her head and arms. He was in trauma and panicked onward toward her before guards stopped him to removed him from the room as he screamed and shouted his Master's name. He truly never felt more helpless in his life. Eyes widened in shock and in fear, he slowly as if crippled, walks to the labor station to ask his Captain what might have happened. Vile Venum Sickness. That's what the Captain called it. It was new. The Captain never saw it before and only 1 other person had the infection aside from Aria. That person had already died.
After being told "there is no cure", Haden is angry, sad and scared all at the same time. What could he do without his Master? He was a nobody. He had no friends, no love, no way out. She was all he had. He had to save her life. There was only 1 way to do it but it required him to venture out of Central New Helix. It was his biggest fear. Venturing into the unknown where all of the powerful and more dangerous creatures lived. Creatures using elements and auras. He was crippled motionless by fear just thinking about, but he kept telling himself it had to be done. He didn't sleep that night as he lay in bed practically sobbing in tears. His Master and the woman he loved, she was dying and there was nothing he could do to save her. That wasn't enough for him. He could not let it happen that way. He swore to himself that in the following morning, he would tell Central New Helix his goodbyes and venture into the darkness of the unknown. He would learn to cope and hide most of the way only fighting if his life depended on it. He would travel to the Grand Tower of Helix where at the top he could speak to the Helix Cleric. No one had reached the top of the tower in hundreds of years to meet the Cleric.
This Cleric was no ordinary Cleric. He developed a special brew that not only could remove a majority of known infections, but temporarily stop aging itself. Everyone would climb the tower for this brew, but no one would ever succeed. Haden had to. It was his only hope. The Helix Potion was his ticket to Aria's life. He knew that the tower could easily overcome him. 100 ruthless flights to travel in a never ending battle to the top, facing the most crazy and the most wicked to get there. He had to obtain proper gear he could master first, traveling to North New Helix before returning to Central to venture South and reach the tower. He would have to learn to stand up and fight the ugly and the dark, even conquer those creatures also carrying the infection. On his adventure to save his love, even one of his bullies, Sirius, is inspired to join. Hearing how skilled Haden is with a sword, he finds an easy fit with his strong Aura as he isn't quite skilled with a blade himself. Lia, a friend of Haden's and Aria's also sworn to save her friend's life decides to tag along in the adventure to save her. Not just to save Aria, but the world. The sickness is spreading and a cure must come fast. Haden wants more than the brew, he wants the recipe for the brew as well. He swore even that if he had to kill the sacred Helix Cleric for it, he would. No one saw the fire in Haden's eyes coming. He was a new man, from passive to the most serious nature they had ever encountered. He wasn't upset in sadness anymore. He wasn't afraid. He was angry that he never stood up when he was needed but now when he is needed most, he will stand.
