Hi there,
I'm playing video games since 1980 and its famous INFOCOM Dungeon renamed Zork (1, 2, 3, etc.) until Activision, who bought INFOCOM, stopped the product line after moving from characters-only screens to video (remember Zork Nemesis?).
Today, I'm 72, retired, and I spend my time writing documentations for the games I love.
I dunno why/how I found the Zork trilogy on Github the other day, but it was a loooooong time I wished to learn how to program a video game, so I googled "how to make a video game" and obviously RPG Maker came out.
So, here I am.
There is a very nice forum in France on RPG Maker all versions, but it doesn't seem very active and answers may take days before being posted, so I'm here now. I'll try to ask questions wich are not answered (or understandable to me) in the Help file, such like the meaning of BM 100% and BS 100%, which took me hours before understanding that it means Background Music level and sound level... (I didn't find anywhere an explanation of this in the doc).
Talking about doc, I'm currently converting the 800+ HTML Help pages of the PC version to Word (don't worry, AVS Document Converter has been my Friend) to 330 pages, because I like to read docs as PDF files on my beloved iPad ("Now that we are going to die, I need to tell you the truth: I broke your iPad - WHAT ?!") and this migration work is certainly the best way to learn the product.
Someone in the French Forum (https://www.rpg-maker.fr/) asked me why MV and not MZ. Actually, there is a 18 euros version available for my good old PS4, so here it is. I also DL the free PC demo version to get the Help files, and am currently playing the tutorial of this version (the one of the PS4 is funny but very "light").
After two days, I started my first map and I have a few question, that I'll post now in the appropriate categories of this forum.
Last, for those who know well about the raise and fall of the Great Underground Empire and wonder how it could be technically converted to 2D with MV (or any other similar products), I have converted the INFOCOM map to... Excel first !
Inuf for this presentation. Talk to you later, Pals.
