Hello, everyone!!

My name is Kiyasu and I recently purchased RPG Maker VX Ace, RPG Maker MV, and RPG Maker MZ. (However, I am using only VX Ace now; the others are "just in case" purchases. I can open MV but it lags for me, and I cannot install MZ.) I am a professional illustrator and my illustration works can be foud on my Web site (link also in my signature below). I also have a lot of feelings for the Windows XP era and live my life as if it is literally still that era, in every way possible! In code that I write, Web design, video games (latest handheld: NDS Lite; latest consoles: Wii and PS2), operating systems, software, the cell phone I own (intentionally never owned a smart phone in my entire life, and never will), etc.

I can write and communicate in English, Japanese, and Traditional Chinese (Mandarin Chinese). I have lived in Ecuador (Quito, not sure how long), Taiwan (Taipei, not sure how long), Italy (Rome, for 5 years), the United States (Miami, FL, for 1.5 years), Taiwan (Taipei, for maybe 3 years), and then Argentina (Buenos Aires, for 3 years). I then returned to Taiwan to attend National Taiwan University (NTU), and have not left the country ever since college days. I also learned Italian, Spanish, and German before but basically forgot everything. T_T I am actually Taiwanese. During the time I lived in Italy, I have been to basically almost every country in Europe that can be reached by car from Italy ("drove around Europe ALL by car," from Italy!!). When I was living in the United States, I have been to all the US States in the eastern side, all the way up to Niagara Falls and a bit of Canada. I have also been to Australia and New Zealand, as well as several other US states (e.g., Texas, California, Washington). My birthday is on September 10th.

I am grateful that I have an engine like VX Ace (RGSS3) to help me develop my upcoming professional game. My challenge is mixing it with the linear motion battle system (LMBS) from the "Tales of" video games series. I like LMBS so much and want all my games to have it when possible, but there are challenges along the way. I hope posting here will open me up to people who have experience with Moghunter's scripts (for example) and that we can learn from each other. LMBS is a passion of mine and I want to meet like-minded people to connect with, to learn from. (But it's OK if you aren't related... I am still open to connecting with you either way!!)

The "Tales of" games I played are (in order): Tales of Destiny (PSX), Tales of Eternia (PSX), Tales of Destiny 2 (PS2), Tales of Rebirth (PS2), Tales of Destiny: Director's Cut (PS2), Tales of Symphonia (PS2), Tales of Phantasia (PS1), Tales of Fandom Vol. 1 (PSX), Tales of the Abyss (PS2), and Tales of Fandom Vol. 2 (PS2). I also played a bit of Tales of Hearts: Anime Movie Edition (NDS) and Tales of the Tempest (NDS).

Speaking of the battle system, I coincidentally happened to play Star Ocean: the Second Story (PSX) after I played Tales of Destiny (PSX), and this helped me "fall in love" with this kind of battle sytem even more! However, I still wonder whether LMBS is copyrighted or patented or something, as there seems to be no professional games using such battle system. I dreamed of making my own RPG with this system, this kind of mechanic, and it helps to meet people who are familiar, who can aid me in editing Moghunter's plugin XD

My favorite "Tales of" games are (in order from most favorite to least!) Tales of Destiny: Director's Cut (PS2), Tales of Destiny 2 (PS2), Tales of Eternia (PSX), Tales of Rebirth (PS2), and then Tales of Phantasia (PSX). I also enjoyed Tales of Fandom Vol. 2 (PS2) very much.

E-mail is the best way to reach me. I am on e-mail "all the time" as long as I am on my laptop. (Kiyasu "Always On E-mail" Oka... maybe! XD) My e-mail address is kiyasu [at] kiyasugreen.com and I am very open to networking with others, so feel free to reach out. ^^ Even a simple "hello" is all right.

Thanks for reading, and nice to meet everyone!!

I think you and I could become good friends, welcome!
I'm currently playing Last Cloudia to get that battle system fix.

So cool someone else also played Tales of Destiny: Director's Cut (PS2). *surprised* Thanks for the reply!! Made my morning!! ^^ (And wah, your reply came in during the billionth attempt of editing my post, when it still says "Awaiting approval," so I was surprised to see someone already "reacted" to my post XD) Happy to make new friends!!

Welcome to the forums! :D I too am a fan of the Tales series (Graces and Symphonia being my two faves), and Star Ocean 2 is my favorite game of all time despite its rough edges! I can assure you there is nothing (or at least nothing significant) copyrighted about those battle systems, though I agree it would be nice if there were more games out there with full-action, real-time, separate combat screens.

You may or may not know that many members of the Tri-Ace team that worked on SO2 jumped onto the Namco Tales team once Square started to take the series in a different direction. I think their first game for Namco was Symphonia and they've worked on many, but not all, of the mothership Tales games since.

What were your favorite countries to visit in Europe (besides Italy, where you lived)? And what made you fall in love with them? Once this epidemic is over (and I have a little more spending money) I am so eager to finally make it to Europe.

Thank you for the reply!! When I first played Star Ocean: the Second Story, I had wondered whether they were ripping off from the Tales of series, as even some special skills and items have the same names. I was surprised! I had to double-check whether SO2 was a game from Namco or not, and confirmed it said "Enix," and then was amazed how these two games could be copying off item names, etc. so much! But then eventually I learned that people behind Tales of Phantasia were behind SO2, and it all started to make sense.

Yoshiharu Gotanda invented the LMBS, I think. Tales of Phantasia and Star Ocean: the Second Story is related to him. So I was kind of "desperate" to confirm whether there are any professional, commercial games out there that is NOT a Tales of game, and not related to this guy, in case my upcoming RPG could be copyright infringement, or at least, some kind of patent infringement. I am concerned that if I market my game with the phrase "LMBS," it could be an issue, too.

My case is different from other commercial RM games in that I have video game industry professionals in my staff for voice acting and music, so it's not the same as "simply commercially selling my game." I want to be extra sure what I am doing is absolutely professional.

I was so young when I was in Italy, so it's kind of difficult to say what I liked, as I was more focused on things like what video games I could play. But I recall remembering this farm-like hotel I stayed at in Germany, the Netherlands, and maybe this time in either Austria or Switzerland. Also this one time in Sicily when I happened to come across one of my classmates from school, which was really cool. :D Sorry if this is not much help; I wasn't focused that much on the traveling or adventure back then T_T Europe still has some kind of an important place in my heart, and I "grew up" there. :')

By the way, I still think there is something so enchanting between Crawd C. Kenny and Rena Lanford from SO2; the game drew me in so easily in the beginning! Within 2 months, I have two completed game files, both with 110+ hours of game play!

so hopefully tomorrow i get to go home from the hospital i've been here for 5 days already and it's driving me mad. I miss my family like crazy but at least I get to use my own toiletries and my own clothes. My mom is coming to visit soon i can't wait to see her cause i miss her the most. :kaojoy:
Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
