Hi, I really need to meet someone ASAP that knows the VXAce program and is willing to help a noob

I'm easy to get along with and I'm a decent artist, desperately needing to meet people that can give advice/help guide me in making a fantasy rpgmaker game

I have made my own sprites, talking characters, backgrounds, write a story. But rpgmaker ended up harder than it looks and it has me very worried I'm going to fail or get fed up with it.

Do you know the indie game Wadanohara? my standards would be on that level. very basic rpg with custom graphics and lots of cutscenes.

I guess i'm a pretty shy person so it's been really hard for me to find a place to talk about what i'm looking for so I came here.
Of my current group of friends I meet from Deviantart. None of them know anything about rpgmaker or care to learn it.
so i'm really stuck but really determined to learn on my own.

I have a story ready to be made into a game. the plot is pretty much done. and finishing it by making it into a game is my last resort with being fed up with writing chapters and chapters of it. I even did a 50+ page comic for it but its exhausting. but my drive to present the story in game format seems more possible and ive already filled out enough of a

I'm bad with codeing, ive been looking up a ton of tutorials and it only half makes sense to me or I get stuck, and I have a ton of specific questions that I cant seem to find online.

If someone has the patience to mentor me, I swear I wont be that annoying and I learn when shown how to, fast.
Please send me a message and we can exchange skype contacts.

so yeah.. id like to get to know someone that is willing to give me their skype and talk to me/help me. In return I can draw a few things for you, or if you even like the plot and want a cameo, maybe that would be fun?

For examples of my art skill level you can see my artworks linked in my sig

yes this seems like recruitment advertising, but it's not really,
I plan to do all my game work once I learn enough. I'm broke and I need to make new friends because I don't know where else to turn. I even checked if there is game making groups/events in my area, but there are none. the only thing I can offer is my art but I dont even sell well with commissions on DA so yeah.

I just need someone with some rpg experience to talk to.

--if the game does ever get made, i'd really like to share it. it's fantasy and some psychological horror

why does this sound so desperate?  talk to me and you'll get to know my personal reasons.

Hello Norieh,

I think the best idea to deal with the current situation you're in is to try and join a project that is already in existence. That may sound a little off, but the way I learned how to properly use RPG Maker XP/VX Ace was to work alongside people on their projects while getting information from them. However, there are always people who will help you within the forums along with many different sections within the forums that can help teach a person with little skill of the RPG Maker how to use it.

However, if you can't seem to find a friend who would talk to you about your project idea and help you out with going about creating your project, I am always here to help! I'm not the greatest person when it comes to certain areas of RPG Maker, but I believe over the course of these four years I've learned enough to be able to help someone at least get out of the "Noob" area of the Program itself. My Skype is on my profile or you could PM me. Whichever one works.

Hi and welcome! Personally, I think you've come to a great place to seek help in learning Ace. The only thing I would caution is don't get discouraged if no one is jumping up and down at the opportunity to be your personal mentor. It's nothing personal, we just all have real lives going on without a lot of time to spare for that kind of thing.

The great thing is there is so much wonderful information on here already to help you on your way. Andar has a great tutorial for beginning Ace users that should help you learn. There are great tutorials as well in that section. My other piece of advice is to read everything. Even when people are asking questions that may not pertain to you at the time, read it anyway, I can guarantee you will pick up valuable information along the way.

As far as scripting goes, I have tried several methods for learning and currently I am working through these tutorials videos: http://forums.rpgmakerweb.com/index.php?/topic/19863-rgss3-scripting-tutorial-videos/#entry189816

I have found them to be the most effective means of learning thus far, as it is Ruby specifically pertaining to Ace and you can do the work alongside him. Between that and asking a lot of questions, I am really learning a lot.

My last piece of advice is to try hard not to be afraid to jump in, ask questions and get to know people. The more you interact with people and get to know them, the more willing they will be to help you out.

Best of luck on your project!

*Looks through your art*

Boy, you sure do have talent! And I bet most people here are willing to help you out, anytime! The type of game you wanted to make shouldn't be too much of a fuss really, I bet you'd be able to make that dream game of yours without facing too many complications! :)

If you need someone to talk to, I'm all ears, my holidays are coming up and I have some time to relax a little :D But don't ask me about coding! D: I am not even close to good at it, I only review games and make stories!

Good luck in your journey, I have a feeling one day I may ask for your help. Anyways, welcome to the forums! XD

thanks so much and i'll definitely look into that link. :) it's really late now here so i'll have to sleep soon.

also i just met some people through the notes here, and they will help guide me through the basics. and I got a few other helpful replies.

I'm definitely more confident and relived someone replied and of course I will be patient with them, I have  a lot of planning to do to keep me occupied. i just needed someone i can rely on if i get specifically stuck. and so far they have answered all of my questions

and I hope to someday contribute back if I get a first project running at least.

Hope I didn't sound too negative. Didn't mean to at all. I just didn't want you to think that people were unkind or unhelpful for not being able to personally tutor you. Some people get a little snippy about that kind of thing. I'm very glad you've gotten some great responses!

Welcome to the forum.

If I could make one suggestion to help you on your way - put learning scripting on the back burner for a while until you have learned what you can do in the editor and with events, and what scripts are already available to do what you want.  There are over 1000 on them on the Master Script List, so chances are you can use something that exists already.  If it needs tweaking then you can ask on the forum and usually someone knows how to do what you want.  I have always found people to be very helpful.  Trying to learn everything at once can be overwhelming and lead to discouragement.

Good luck with your project.

I actually got 2 replies from people that really know what theyre doing. well one is experienced in scripting, and the other has finished works and has answered my question and seems interested in my project. so i'm really happy about that. now i can focus on my own

but that is a good suggestion if I had no offers. And thanks for the offer too

yeah i'm putting some scripting aside  since my intent is a really basic game, I hope the characters and story stands out more than anything really.

so from a question I asked and got a reply. Pretty much the optional features I want are all "easy" and possible,  so that's a relief.

well I was going to do this alone. and even teach myself alone, but it was so overwhelming I caved and joined this site. and now with the responses and skype invites I received, I'm more sure i'll finish a game :D

thanks for your feedback, good luck with your projects too

ah i just like to fully explain myself. also with looking at the replies of other threads here, I thought I wouldn't get many if i didnt seem urgent (it is urgent though I sort of have a half a year deadline. ) also I guessed that really if someone wanted to give me theyre skype. they're opening the door to be bugged by a new random person. so I was thinking i'd get even less offers. but I really am patient and try to bend to others schedules, so not a bad risk for them.

thanks for being so nice, I feel welcomed already ^^

Hi Norieh, welcome aboard, everyones have their dream and want to accomplish it, it's great you already have supportesr, so I think you just need to learn more about the software system, maybe eventing and such, but more importantly take it easy, don't overdo yourself. It's best to take refreshing than burn out.
Have a nice day =).

Is game making a dream? To some, perhaps. In the case of psychological horror, 'twould be a nightmare to others! "Others" being the characters in the game. I sorta feel inclined to specify that.

Aside from that commentary, welcome to the forums, and all that goodness.

Welcome to the group!

Glad to hear you are getting some responses already! Hope you can make your deadline without too much trouble!

Sorry I'm not more eloquent but I'm fighting a nasty headache at the moment that makes it hard to think clearly.

Anyway, have fun!

I don't mean to offend you or anyone, but please don't tell it like that.. If game making is not a dream and instead a horror then why you continue do that? I'd say like that to motivate the OP, I'm not saying it's a fun dream(although yes for me it's fun despite the difficulty), I have said that the OP need to take easy, because yes, it's not an easy thing to accomplish, but telling him that it's a nightmare is not a good thing. In fact all dream is a hard thing to accomplish, not only making a game, you can found to be a master of piano or master of drawing will be more like a nightmare(and it's also some peoples dream and they said it's fun). I can imagine if those master piano like Marasy and the others think that learning piano is a nightmare, I bet now they still can't play anything. Well, although your words is not wrong, it's better to not tell like that, let's support each other okay? It's great you welcomed the OP =)

And again to if it's a horror for others, why in the first place they make a game? For what purpose? I'm curious..

P.S : I'm not yelling at you, I type with smiling, so don't feel offended because I'm not too =]

@BoluBolu: I think you are misreading me. I'm not trying to say that making a game is a nightmare. The concept I was trying to relay is that he wants to make a nightmare, making reference to the desire of the thread-author to make a psychological horror game.

Also, it was a small reference to a movie by the name of Excalibur. To wit:

Arthur: Is that all you have becomw now, Merlin? A dream?

Merlin: A dream? To some. A nigthmare to others!
Sorry if I came off as trying to say that game-making was a nightmare, though! I guess what I wanted to say just came out really weird.

Ah, this is a perfect place to join then. :) I'm sure you can find people who are willing to help you expand you RPG Maker skills and as for art there are many WIP Threads that you can use to get a good and solid feedback on your digital illustrations as well as pixel art.

Maybe before making a bigger game, Im not quite sure how long yours is, you should focus on a smaller project?  It's nice to join up a group and work with them, but honestly I learn more if I work alone and I like the freedom that comes with it. Perhaps come up with an idea for a game that is 30-50 minutes long and work with that? You'll be able to learn a lot and complete  a project that way, plus it'll provide a boost for you to start on something bigger once done. ;) That's just my personal opinion though.

Look through tutorials and don't be afraid to ask when you get stuck on something, the answer is almost immediate, people here are really nice and helpful, so don't worry about a thing. ;) If your looking for testers, just ask I'll be willing to help as well.

Well Welcome to the community!

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
