Hi there!

I'm Aphrael but everyone just calls me Aphy. I finally decided to get off my lazy butt and start developing an RPG Maker game again (I mean again because I made one all the way back when I was a kid using the psx RPG Maker, the first one on consoles afaik and that was fun watching my little sis play through the game I made). I've always loved rpgs but I miss the old school types and want to make one kind of inspired by the older Final Fantasy games and 16 bit jrpgs in general. I am primarily a 3D artist but have my roots in 2D design and I have about three years experience with coding in C# (which makes messing around with the javascript a breeze :D so I am hoping to make my own custom plugins or modify existing ones to fit the needs of my project).

Anyway, I hope I can learn from all of you and hope I can 1) finish the project and 2) see everyone have fun when they do play the final product. Thx for having me and I will soon post my ideas here in a little bit!

PS: Ideas go in the Idea and prototyping forum right? o_O

Hi, good to meet you. I hope you can finish the game. Let me tell you one thing - around 5% percent of indie developers even finish a game completely, and less than 1% make a profit from it. But no pressure :D

You mean game ideas? If so, yes, I believe so.

Welcome to the forum.

That's right. If it's just a small, one aspect idea you want to test out, then post in "Ideas that don't deserve their own thread." If it's more substantial than that, check out the pinned topic "Rules and Guidelines" and maybe make your own thread if you think you can meet the posting criteria.

As things have changed enormously since you last did anything with an RM engine, could I strongly recommend that you go through Andar's compilation of info for new users. In particular, he links to 2 playable tutorials, one for Event Commands and one for Switches and Variables. Generally speaking, you will learn much more from an interactive tutorial than from a video one, and you can open up the editor to see how things were done. One of the biggest reasons for the low completion rate of first games is that people make it unnecessarily hard for themselves by not getting the fundamentals under their belt first. Spending a short amount of time on these now will save you a vast amount of time and frustration in the future.

And good luck with your project.

Thx everyone!

Oh, you misunderstand me; while the original RM was the last one I completed a project, I have played around quite extensively with RM XP, VX, and VX Ace so I am very familiar with the dev environment for MV, but thank you for the advice. The changes I have seen over the years have been fantastic! So much more freedom to make the game your very own lol. (And was never a fan of using Ruby for custom scripting, I love that it has changed to Javascript) Anyway, I will try to post in Ideas and Prototypes, I have many things already in mind for this game which I would like to share, thank you very much!

How many parameters is 'too many'??
Yay, now back in action Happy Christmas time, coming back!

Back in action to develop the indie game that has been long overdue... Final Fallacy. A game that keeps on giving! The development never ends as the developer thinks to be the smart cookie by coming back and beginning by saying... "Oh bother, this indie game has been long overdue..." How could one resist such? No-one c
So I was playing with filters and this looked interesting...

Versus the normal look...

Kind of gives a very different feel. :LZSexcite:
To whom ever person or persons who re-did the DS/DS+ asset packs for MV (as in, they are all 48x48, and not just x2 the pixel scale) .... THANK-YOU!!!!!!!!! XwwwwX
