Hello! I am a pixel artist and I have been "spriting" all of my resources thusfar... except for my tilesets. Doing tilesets in MS Paint have proven very hard and I do have FireAlpaca, but that isn't a very "pixel-oriented" service.

Does anybody know any free tileset creating softwares that could help me with this problem? I am tight on a budget right now for food and such, so, free is the only way to go right now!

Thank you for your consideration~!  :guffaw:

Sorry if this is in the wrong area, I'm still getting used to this place.

I'm doing mine for school.

It's voluntary, but if I win 1st prize in the art convention...

well, I get lots of dinner money~!

Basically most people use GIMP (or photoshop, but that is not free)

There are no specific "wonder-programs" for tileset construction, you'll need a program that can create and display a grid of guides - that's all.

Paint.NET works as well. It's also FREE.

Any program with layers will probably do wonders for you!

There's an older, unsupported version of Pyxel Edit you can download from their site for free.  It's hidden at the bottom of their Get page.  It's a bit buggy and you can't cut and paste anything but it makes it a whole lot easier to draw seamless tiles than most programs out there.

Moving to Program and Utility Discussion

Photoshop is the tool I think that is used the most. GIMP and Paint.NET are free (Paint.NET has an interface similar to Paint and I find it easier to use than GIMP simply because there aren't so many confusing choices, but it can be a bit limited in some areas).

Basically, anything that supports these things should be okay:

- multiple layers

- transparency

- visible grid
