Hiya. I'm new to this but hoping to turn this into something I can be proud of.
Back in the day, about a million years ago, I was a kid and learning BASIC. I still remember being impressed with myself after learning 10 print "hello" and 20 goto 10 and then later thought I was becoming an expert because in the BASIC manual I was reading about "peek" and "poke" and it was in the "Advanced" chapter. Yes, back then we had to learn by reading books, it was a strange time. I recall getting fairly decent at programming in BASIC but for whatever reason, I just moved on to other things but I always remained a gamer. From what I understand, a lot of popular games that sprank up in later years were developed by folks that started out roughly the same, but stayed with it.
I've often wondered how far I could have gone with it, had I stuck with it and a couple of times I thought about picking it up again but coding seems so much different now. After having played a bit of Stardew Valley and being reminded of some old classics like Ultima III and Sentinel Worlds I: Future Magic, and then seeing RPG Maker on sale right now, I decided to take a less difficult path to game-making than raw coding. And that's why I'm here.

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
Can someone recommend some fun story-heavy RPGs to me? Coming up with good gameplay is a nightmare! I was thinking of making some gameplay platforming-based, but that doesn't work well in RPG form*. I also was thinking of removing battles, but that would be too much like OneShot. I don't even know how to make good puzzles!
one bad plugin combo later and one of my followers is moonwalking off the screen on his own... I didn't even more yet on the new map lol.
