Hello. I was ready to make an action RPG using IG maker. After finishing programming the animations for the character, I started proggramming it to move. But for some reason, instead of standing still and walking when I press a button, my character starts flying upwards and completely dissapearing offscreen. I played around with the movement functions, but I can't get it to work? Please tell me how do I make my character stand still and move when I press the buttons instead of him just flying off the screen... :(

Also, make sure you're not using the top left tile on your sprite sheet when your making your character. Everything goes wonky if you do.

That tip is completely mixed up and wrong.

First, this is about IG Maker, not RPG-Maker - and the problem you're referring to is in RPG-Maker.

For those in RPGM who might read this:

There are tile sheets which are used for creating tilesets which make the map floor and walls etc., and there are sprite sheets which are used for creating the characters on the map.

The sprite sheets have absolutely nothing to do with problems in moving or controlling characters.

"The top left tile" refers to the top left tile position in the Tile-B-Sheet ONLY.

The tilesheets for the slots B to E all have the same grafical format, but the specific tilesheet installed in the B-Slot needs its first tile transparent and set to star passability.

If you place the same tilesheet in another slot, that first tile just becomes a transparent tile that can be used to erase other tiles, and if the first tile is something else then it doesn't matter as long as that tilesheet is only used in C, D or E slots of the tilesheet.

Okay, let me clarify since I'm not that good at explaning myself. I AM refering to IGM and at spritesheets. What I am trying to say is when using said spritesheet for implementing player movement it might be a good idea not to use the top left corner since that was the cause of a similar problem for me when making my game.

I had that first quadrant (or however you like to refer it as) as the beginning of my move right animation, but when I reffered to it durring gameplay my character would wizz out and jump off the top screen at high speed and not come back, though I was still able to move the screen right and left.

I've never had this same problem with rpgm, not sure why you thought I was refering to that one.

No, but movement and passability are mixed up in ace, when the first tile of the B sheet is NOT transparent and set to star...

Sorry then, it looked like one of the most common problems with Ace movement that you were referring to, and I don't know enough of IGM to see that IGM has a problem that might get a similiar description.

Back in action to develop the indie game that has been long overdue... Final Fallacy. A game that keeps on giving! The development never ends as the developer thinks to be the smart cookie by coming back and beginning by saying... "Oh bother, this indie game has been long overdue..." How could one resist such?
