I'd start here :

And just because I recently found it, a bunch of vintage Fishies!
I'll see what else I have bookmarked and otherwise referenced if I get a chance.

Hope that helps!

EDIT: I don't know why I thought external links were supposed to be in spoiler tags. Ignore me...

Those fishies were from RawPixel's public domain archive (I only bookmarked the fishies). Here's their gallery page: https://www.rawpixel.com/category/53/public-domain

if you're looking for art for games that can be used for free (not necessarily only public domain), Open Game Art ( https://opengameart.org/ ) has some good stuff.

Note that the Creative Commons licenses have a couple of added restrictions, but they're easy - you have to release your modifications under the same license and credit the maker (CC-BY-SA), or you just have to credit the maker (CC-BY)

I've found myself using Unsplash and editing the photos with artistic filters when I need something for a good background or some other- they tend to match RTP battlebacks and parallaxes.

itch.io is a haven for indie game devs, and it even has an asset page- free and paid- that I like to visit frequently to see what's new.

Unsplash is entirely free, commercially as well, while itch.io has it depend from creator to creator. Make sure to check their terms.

just hopped into project recruitment... hoping to maybe find some artists to help with parallax maps and whatnot. I could do them myself, but I'm not really good at it so I'd prefer to stick to my strengths which is character art and SOME UI elements.
PRODUCTIVE DAY! I think I FINALLY completed all the items for part 1 of Fallen Feather, that includes the animations, the stats, the pricing, etc. for weapons, armors, key and consumables! all i need to be 100% done is write a few more descriptions (only 10 left out of the 40+ items) and to find some nice pants icons (dont ask lol).
