Hi! I am new here and to this program, so I'm sorry for my super obvious questions.

I am an artist studying game art so I am able to make my own sprites and backgrounds.

My question is how can I import hand painted backgrounds into the game? Do I need a super large image so the character can keep walking up the screen and the image continues??

Also when you are editing it is only that one screen.  How do you make it so you can edit beyond that window??

Super noob here. Thanks anyway in advance for anyone who can help me!!

:)

Import the image (JPEG or PNG) as a Parallax.

Then right-click on the map you want to add it to, and select it under properties (I think the program refers to it internally as a "parallax background"). You can then choose whether it scrolls with the map as the player walks (either vertically or horizontally or both) and even make it auto-scroll, if you want (you can also choose the speed in that case).

Your painted backgrounds are called Parallaxes. They should be the same image size as the map size or larger (multiply the rows/columns of the map by 32 to get your length/width dimensions) If larger it will scroll as the player moves with the map. You can set it to loop infinitely for open-maps (like a world map) All this is prepared in the Map Properties, right-click the map name in your editor.  The parallaxes are imported through the Resource Manager under Graphics/Parallaxes.  Image should be a PNG recommended, but JPG works too.

Look up some posts on Parallax Mapping, as that's the term for what you're doing.

You MAY need a parallax locking script, as normal parallaxes aren't meant to move at the same speed as the player.

To make the map bigger, you just go to the map properties (right click on the map name in the left panel, and choose Properties) and increase the number of tiles in either or both directions. Your parallax map image should be the width (in tiles) x 32, by the height (in tiles) x 32.

Hailren, please do not take moderating into your own hands. VX Ace Support is the correct place for this question.

Thank you!!

How large of an image would you say a normal painted dungeon or level be?

Ive been reading about some people complaining about image quality. Would it be possible to get to the same level of detail/clarity of for instance Zenonia 5?

Here are links in case you arent familiar with the game.

Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
