Help - Player stats reduced by Question / Answer

Hey all,


First, I'm very impressed with such a supportive community. (First time caller, long time listener  :D  )


Second, although I love RPG maker MV, I am a complete noob.


Question:  I want to have my player 'touch' a monster, the monster ask a question and if the player answers correctly, the monster's stats (either by a set number or a %) are reduced in a subsequent battle. If the player is wrong, the player's stats are reduced in the battle.


I'm sure that this is fairly simple but I haven't been able to figure it out, so if anyone can help me and post some screenshots of how they did it, I would really appreciate it.

Have the answer to the question cause two switches On or OFF, one for enemy and one for party reduction.


In each troop, have a troop event run at first turn that checks the switches and either gives the enemy the state/debuffs or the player.


That way is pure eventing, but it has one or two minor problems (like the states being removed on resurrection in battle after death, or the need to have the same troop event in every battle. But for both those problems there are plugins to overcome them.

I appreciate the advice but am still having issues. I've created the answer to turn on a switch to reduce Enemy HP (Minotaur is 400HP by default, switch on = -399HP from Minotaur) but it doesn't seem to work. What am I doing wrong?

You mixed up page priority - the page executed is always the page with the highest number that has all conditions fulfilled.
Since your page 2 has no conditions, the engine will never execute page one, no matter what you do with switches - highest page number has highest priority.

Additionally, the "change enemy XY" commands only work inside troop events, because enemies exist only on the battlescreen.
You need to place that command inside the troop events of the "Minotaur"-Troop, and have that event check the switch to decide wether to remove the HP or not. It will never work outside a troop event (which are on the troop tab in the database, not on the maps).

Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
