Help with controllers not working?

So, a controller simply does not work at all on anything for me... I'm using an Xbox 360 controller, but it's not wanting to be my friend today for some reason(no idea what I did to make it mad LOL) I've tried remapping the buttons through F1 to every possible thing I can think of, but to no avail... Would someone care to explain to a noob how to get controllers to work, please?

The controller is wired and does work on other things.

Will off-brand work without scripting? Because I have a 3GC Steel Series controller.

The controller layout for Ace is based on some 6-button format commonly found in Japan, as the product was originally designed there. MV supports more controller layouts, however, but without a script a 360 controller probably won't work well on Ace.
