Can someone help me? I am newish with using RPG Maker, and am trying to set up an event in the beginning area of a game I'm working on. What I want to do is have character a: Your first party member's mom, to address you when you come in, approach you before talking some more, and then having said party member come up and talk to you before leaving the screen.

Right now, the dialogue in the second screenshot just repeats itself. I want the mom to walk to you, say her dialogue and walk back to her original position when the party member approaches you and leaves the screen. Any and all help is greatly appreciated, thank you.  :)

Firstly, I would change your setup a little bit: Instead of having the Autorun on the Mom Event, create a new event somewhere the player can't reach (I usually use the top left corner of the map), set that to Autorun, move the dialog there and set the Mom Event back to Action Button. Also, you should name all events that somehow take part in a cutscene. That's not necessary, but I find it helps to keep everything organized.

Now for your problems: Autorun Events repeat by default, so you need to switch it off after the scene is finished. To do that, the usual method is to turn on a Self Switch (lets say Self Switch A) after the cutscene logic (in your case, after the dialog), add a second (empty) page to the event - no graphic, Below Characters, Action Button - and choose the condition "Self Switch A is ON" on the second page. That will make the first page only run once and automatically switch to the second page after that.

Once you get that working, you can add the rest of the scene to your Autorun Event. The "Set Movement Route" Event Command lets you move the Player and Events around the map.

They cover the basics of RPG Maker quite well, but if you have any other questions, feel free to ask :)

You're creating a cutscene, which is one single series of dialogue and actions involving multiple characters/events.  The best way to do this is to have a blank event that has ALL the event commands, which orchestrates the whole thing.  The characters are then events with no commands (or only commands you want to run after the player gains control and interacts with them).  In your 'master' event, you can control the movement and graphics of the others with the Set Move Route event command, which allows you to select someone other than the player as the subject.  At the end of the cutscene event, turn on a switch, then add a second page conditioned by that switch, with everything else left the same.  This will stop it running over and over.  If you also want to change the behaviour or sprites of other events, give them extra pages conditioned by the same switch (so your extra party member will have a sprite on page 1 with no event commands, and no sprite on page 2, which will be conditioned by the same switch).

In the Blog > Tutorials > Hints & Tips, there is an article called "Events are not NPCs: The Biggest Mistake in Cutscene Events" that will walk you through the process.

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
