Hello, I'm new as you can get on the forums but I've been using the program for a while. However, this is the first time I've used VX Ace, and also the first time I've ever done a cutscene. Because I'm not entirely sure how to explain what I want to do, I'll include a picture below as well. :o

Basically, I want to make an event based cutscene to play at the start of a new game. I don't really understand how to set it up, I've read quite a few tutorials but it's still not clicking for me. The things I'm having the biggest problems with are initiating the event (autorun doesn't seem to do it), changing the character graphic, and how to switch from the event into controlling the character (because you can't put an event on the same tile). Below is how I want it to play out.

  • Starts on a black screen with a small bit of dialogue
  • Opens on the starting map, character is shown sleeping on the ground (this accompanies a graphic)
  • character exclaims and then wakes up
  • Another bit of dialogue, then player gains control.
I've had no trouble setting up other events, I know I'm not great at it but at least I can get it to function, is there anyone who could help me or show me an example of the commands I should use? I'm really lost. I've included my original storyboard below as well as a screenshot of my map thus far (the sprites aren't done, the blond is the same character as the purple one on the ground. Note that I want to start and end the event on the same tile I have the purple one. Thank you so much!

Explaining how you have accomplished what you've already done would be helpful. Screenshots of your event.

There's nothing difficult in what you're explaining, so I'm not sure if you've actually tried and gotten stuck, or what.

Ok so... upon entering a sleep deprived state at 3 o'clock in the morning... I managed to figure it out! I just wasn't understanding self switches correctly and was putting them in the wrong place in my event. I'm sorry for the trouble, I'm still not entirely sure what it was that was making my mind blank!

An intro should have only a single controlling event, and that should have only a single page for the entire sequence - the only switch neccessary would be a self-switch to end this.

All other events should be empty of commands (the commands should be in the controlling event, set move route can be targeted on any event from there) and perhaps general switches to change the sprite of the other events.

If you still have problems with cutscenes, I suggest working through the tutorials - just follow the link in my signature.

Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
How many parameters is 'too many'??
Yay, now back in action Happy Christmas time, coming back!

Back in action to develop the indie game that has been long overdue... Final Fallacy. A game that keeps on giving! The development never ends as the developer thinks to be the smart cookie by coming back and beginning by saying... "Oh bother, this indie game has been long overdue..." How could one resist such? No-one c
