So I just bought Luna Engine, and was wondering about a few things.

Why does it automatically look like this?

The items look annoying, why's the font like that. . And why are there icons next to the commands? Ugh. I'm just so confused, since I didn't even touch the scripts. I just copied the base, and suddenly it just. . ugh.

I've also tried to follow Ralph's tutorials, but the problem is. .

I can't find anything on 'line 41', or 'line 59', and this is all just very confusing for me.

Yes, I'm new and can't script, but I will gladly learn, as long as someone's willing to teach me. .

Also, yes, I've read the manuals. Still can't understand a thing.

Call me stupid, but can you teach me how to do this? >_<

Thank you.

You are far from stupid.

It is not the easiest thing to do.

But for such complex thing as menus, Luna Engine makes it as easy as possible with a script collection to do stuff.

Luna engine is a bunch of well documented scripts.

By default some of them do exactly what you show us up there with this screen shot.

Now look.

There are a few ways to understand how Luna Engine works.

One is trial and error.

Let me tell you a few stuff that will probably help you out.

Luna Engine is divided into two parts.

[ A ]  Scripts that configure everything to work properly in part [ B ]

[ B ] Scripts that do the magic and you will not have to touch ever.

Now part [ A ] is VERY well documented and you can read what is going on.

Let's see sample Project Etrian.

Open that project.

Go to the scripts and take a look at the config scripts.

In fact you set where some pictures will appear (X and Y coordinates) and you also create an invisible item for each of the menu items.

The cursor (or the arrow keys) move a selector (that is a picture you set on the script too) and move through those invisible items.

Now look, behind the invisible items there are visible pictures you have set to the script, by giving names like "chara.png"

Where are all these then? Go to /Graphics/System and you will find some of them.

See the pictures. Then see the menu. See? Now change the color of some of these pictures and see how it will change in the game too.

Finally Imagine changing these pictures and setting X and Y coordinates for every menu item.

And now hopefully you can understand better how things work.

Eye of the player >>>                  Invisible item at X,Y position     >>>           Picture behind the item, creating an illussion you select the picture instead of the invisible item.

You can edit the picture and still have the script work fine that way.

X and Y are the resolution coordinates

Top left is X=0 and Y=0

Top right will be X=640 Y=0 I suppose.

Thank you for replying. . I still don't quite understand, but I think it takes time to do so.

Had I known that there were demos, I could've mingled with things quite a bit xD

Anyways, thanks a lot for helping me! I think I've got the gist of it. . kinda

Dread, it seems so easy when you explain something.

I admit I didn't touched -YET- any Luna scripts because I was certain to have some similar startle to start with.

I think I will gently and delicately just start-up with my figurative universal ductape; Photoshop!

(You know; that post is and looks weird within the context... I translated that user coded thing! And I am still Luna script illiterate!)

PS: RibbonP? I love your ribbon. I myself am really touched by the breast cancer research and awareness campaign.

Remove's CP Menu Command script. I included it in base since some people want it to be in the default.

I know right?

Ok Time to copy paste:

One of the developers, @Archeia, was kind enough to make this tutorial. Just press the spoiler buttons to reveal it:

http://forums.rpgmakerweb.com/index.php?/topic/35066-luna-engine-tutorial-freebie/
And this was the tutorial I talked about in the question. Like, BOTH Line 41 AND 59 doesn't have the ":back_type", and ":picture". This is why I couldn't progress as far as the tutorial did.

Ahh, alright!

Good luck RibbonP. You need any French-Canadian help just pm me... but not on script language I<m afraid. I ace more in graphic and err literary elements. ;)

It's because the new version has comments littered on them which makes this version of the tutorial using the non-commented version. I'll update it sometime.

Ah, then I'll have to find them myself. At any rate, thanks! I was getting really confused. .

EDIT: @Marquise

Thanks! Good luck to you as well!

OOOooooOOOooooh! Thanks Archeia! It means I don't really need to be on-line when I decide how I will decide how I will use the Engine. :D A bit reassuring the figurative hand lended in there!

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
How many parameters is 'too many'??
