Hey, just started with IG Maker, went through the platforming tutorial and everything was working fine. So I decided to start swapping out tutorial pieces with my own creations to sharpen my skills a bit, but then something bizarre occurred.

My new player character does everything correctly, but won't move to the left.

In "The Selected Motion Program's Settings"

I have his running motion selected and the direction set to Right. I also have "don't designate a direction of movement" checked. Essentially, near as I can figure, the new player character is set up exactly the same as the tutorial Player character, so I'm not sure what I'm missing.

If I change the "Action to be Assigned" direction to left, the character only moves left, and his running movement is set to "left/right" and "pressed."

What gives?

Go to your "Gadgets" sub-tab, and double check your action programs real quick. Look at "Standby", and see what you have set to trigger the "Running" action program as "The Next Action Program". It should be "Left/Right - Pressed" I believe. You may have just set it to "Right - Pressed" in a hurry or something. I'm not sure. If that doesn't solve it, you can upload your GPD to mediafire or something and I'd be happy to take a look.

It's been set to "Left/Right" and "Pressed" the entire time. I must have double checked that half a dozen times. It's very odd.

I changed the character movement under Action to be Assigned to Left once, just to test it, and it changed everything to move left.

Basically, it seems to be over-riding the "Don't designate a direction of movement" checkbox.

After all this nonsense, I discovered a solution to this that still irks me a bit: I just made separate left-right movement gadgets. It doesn't necessarily fix whatever the problem was before (and if anyone can think of what it might be, I'd love to see it), but it is a serviceable workaround thus far.

I'm not sure what could be causing it without seeing it for myself, sorry. If you upload your GPD somewhere though and PM me with the link I'd be happy to have a look at it for you and see if I can figure out the problem.

Here's the folder where my file is copied. It has my correction in it, however. I included my modified art pieces, which I've crafted for experimental purposes. My next steps are to create attack animations and and the ability to carry and use items for puzzle solving.

Appreciate it if you find that I missed something. I'm pretty sure I did, just can't figure out what. The stickman is my "cheap sample character," but the original tutorial player character is also in there, which I used as my guide.

I like the program so far, if I can accomplish the goals I want for it, then I'm going to purchase it.

Already found your problem I think. If I'm understanding you correctly. I could be mistaken about something or confused somehow. That happens a lot with me.

So you've got your Player Gadget, which you are using the hero resource from the tutorials for, and then you've got an entirely different gadget which is your stick guy. The thing is, the Player Gadget is a unique gadget. It works differently than any other gadget in the program, especially regarding inputs and the way action programs switch. You only have one Player Gadget per project, so what you need to do in order for this to work correctly is replace the hero animations with your stick figure and use the Player Gadget as your character rather than another gadget. Simple as that.

I did a test on your stick figure and set him up the way you had described before with "Left/Right - Pressed" and "Don't Designate A Direction Of Movement" and guess what? He only ran right. If you test it out with the Player Gadget though, it works as intended.

Hope this helps. If not let me know and I'll try to troubleshoot other possible causes, but I'm pretty sure this is what's up.

Also don't forget that if you do decide to purchase the program, you can use the coupon code "igmakerohyeah" to get a 10% discount. Here is a link that will apply it at checkout if you like - =1&REFSITE=RPGMakerWEB&LANG=en_US&CURR=USD&ITM[COUPON]&meta[COUPON][coupon_code]=IGMAKEROHYEAH"]https://rpgmaker-cart.degica.com/cart.html?ITM[ul78twqj]=1&REFSITE=RPGMakerWEB&LANG=en_US&CURR=USD&ITM[COUPON]&meta[COUPON][coupon_code]=IGMAKEROHYEAH

Hey thanks for the help. You were right, the Player gadget was the issue. Seems a little strange, but whatever. It works now, thanks.

Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
