I'm trying to make me and my friends in rpg maker (just for fun) and decided to draw pixel art for the first time in my life. It was cute and fun until I tried to open rpg maker mv to test it and...

Why.png

Why is it so small???

Like, I know mv style is chibi but how do I make the sprite bigger? Maybe a tileset that fits the style? I'm a bit confused because even when I was making it I tried my best to not be taller or smaller than it should

pls help.png

I know the sprite is not perfect I was really just messing around, but i want to know if there's a way to fix this because increase it wouldn't fix much :/

If you just want to make the sprite bigger, it's as simple as opening your sprite sheet in a program like paint.net and using resize to change the height and width to whatever you want (make sure "maintain aspect ratio" is selected). This will of course lead to a more pixelated look so you may well have to do touchups once you resize the sprites.

There's a version of tall characters located in DarkFantasyCharacterPack.

RPG Maker MV > dlc > DarkFantasyCharacterPack > img > characters (3_Actor1)

Steam dlc location-
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\RPG Maker MV\dlc\DarkFantasyCharacterPack\img\characters

If you want to draw some character sprites in the RPG maker MV or the RPG Maker MZ character sprite style, practice drawing some of your character sprites with larger heads and bodies about the same size as the heads, in a 48 x 48 pixel size.

From the Help:
The size for a character image can be changed freely (normally 48x48 pixels), and consist of 4 directions (up, down, left, right) and 3 patterns for a total of 12 patterns that will be arranged in the provided order. A file for 1 character will be arranged into 2 rows and 4 columns, totaling 8 images. The size of the character will be calculated using 1/12 of the width and 1/8 of the height of this file. Moreover, characters will be shown 6 pixels above a tile so they appear more natural when on top of buildings.

  • It is possible to treat 1 character as 1 file by including "$" at the beginning of the file name.
So Basically just create a bigger image, just make sure you have 12 images of you character that are all the same size, for example if you want to keep the width of 48 but want to double the height to 96 it is totally possible. As Syberduh suggested, just get you existing image and scale it to double the height, and use that as guide to redraw the character to avoid pixelation.
I don't recommned you mix your character with characters generated by RPG Maker, so just put them in their own file, use the prefix $ so RPG Maker knows there is only one character there instead of 8.

Since you want to work with existing tiles, I suggest drawing the initial sprite directly on the mockup (on a new layer) so that you have the scale exactly right. When putting it on a sprite sheet you don't need to use the same size image as the default graphics. You just need to keep the same frames (the static characters of the image) in the same spots and the cells (space the frames takes up) the same size as each other.
