Help with star passability in tilesets

So, my character sprites are pretty big. And, this happens :

I'd like to set it so that, when the player is in front of the tile, the player is on top of the tile. But when the player is behind the tile, the tile is on top of the player.

Is there a way I could do that?

not by default, you'll need a plugin to do that.
I know such scripts existed for Ace, but I don't have a link to any MV-equivalent

Well, Neon Black's fix works, but it for some reason makes my game lag a lot.

I did a port of Neon Black's Ace script for MV. It may (or may not) be included in the shipped plugins. There's definitely a thread for it here.

However, I think the one @Weremole linked to might be better.

um... why didn't anyone tell how easy it is to add motions to Sideview battlers? I literally copied the last one, changed the name and index, said where it should play, and boom... I've got intro motions.
Lately when I listen to 1970s songs, I always think that the "real world" is still at mid 70s. What we experience now is a futuristic dream. With this point of view, even 80s and 90s looks super futuristic. :D
