The basic idea of the game is that you play as the hero, who must defeat the great evil (how original, i know). However lampooning and lampshade hanging will abound (and might be literally a weapon and helmet respectively). The core game play concept will be turn based combat with only a single character in the party, the hero, and combat being played in rounds where your speed determines how many attacks you get and when you go. To help with this, the character will be able to change their class at certain areas, with abilities being linked to weapons and their enchantments, armor, and items, and stat changes based on what class/ colors you have equipped.
Combat System

The overall combat system would (preferably) be a turn based combat system much like a lot of strategy rpgs (such as shining force), allowing you to move your character around to either use out of combat abilities or close for combat.
The idea would be that in battle you work off a speed system. Basically each character has a certain speed, and thats how fast their action bar resets. Some abilities may double the time for reset, add a flat value, or do other things to alter it. Basically though, The idea is once the bar maxes out, you can make your move. Certain abilities might force combat to last longer, or shorter, but ultimately i was thinking that there could be a timer of 5 seconds (real time) that counts down as long as no one is in their move phase (all characters in combat are charging their speed bar)
Outside of combat certain abilities could be used. Things like laying traps, casting spells, using ranged attacks, or even items could be used then. Preferably the enemies would be doing this too. The amount of moves you get would be based on how many you would get in regular combat, but turn based rather than sporadic.

Plot/Game synopsis
As I stated, the plot itself is pretty stock and standard, but the actual writing will come from pointing out all the tropes from the viewpoint of a genre savvy, and possibly insane (he makes his living hunting monsters even well trained soldiers fear, and does it alone) main character. However you play as the hero, a deity that has taken mortal form with the ability to absorb the souls of the dead, gaining their abilities. You are asked to go and defeat the demon lord invading the human realm, and bring peace to the world once more. The game itself would (preferably) be open word so you can roam around finding all the classes, killing monsters, and just having fun exploring until you want to finish the game.
Characters

The Hero- The main character of the story. Is a deity that for whatever reason has taken the form of a human.
Lord Prince of LowTown, Baron of Brownwater, Surveyer of the Great Underreaches, Lord of Flies, King of Hobos, the downtrodden, and the damned, Smelly Pete- Just like it says in the title, Smelly Pete is the king of the hobos. However life is not easy for Pete, as political intrigue abounds, and his throne lies in jeopardy. That, and he's a hobo.
Gavet, Master Thief- Steal from the rich and give to the needy, but due to his gambling and drinking problems, he's always in need of money.
King Henry VI, Richard III- The King of Kingdomia, due to a series of political marriages, ancient treaties, and at least two satanic rituals, he rules his kingdom under two names. If you think that's bad, his first son, if he has one, will have 6.
Princess Destriss- Daughter of the king. Has a tendency to get kidnapped.
Mary, the Paladin- Smiting EVIL with the AWESOME powers of LIGHT and BATTLE-AXES!

Please post here if you are interested in helping with this or if you think there is any information i should add.
Some of the ideas:
Colors:

First off, yes this is heavily inspired by the WH40K orks, but a lot of modern color symbolism too
· Red- 3x The damage, 3x the speed, 3x the AWESOME and 3x the... dying. The color of main characters and people that like to go out in a bang
· Blue- Calm, cool, collected, you know whats up. You have resistance to most status effects, but that resistance to fear is because you don't really get your adrenalin running, so you get less SP.
· Green- Green is the Orkiest! The Greenier the Meanier! Healing and bonus damage in battle, but people don't want to talk to you... ever.
· Brown- "Fetch me my brown pants!" - Admiral Brown. Brown, the color of the earth. It shows that one is well grounded in their ways and knowledge, giving a slight edge to physical attacks and resistance. However, knowing you're hosed doesn't help change the situation. Lowered resistance to fear and dark damage
· Purple- Purple is the coloure of magic. Through ones extensive knowledge of the arcane arts, one finds that their prowess upon these systems become mere tribulations, and show their exceptional skills have surpassed propriety. They're also kind of dicks, and get beat up a lot. Bonus to magic damage and resistance, lowered physical damage and resistance.
· Grey- Grey is stone. Stone is grey. The grey stone sits like a stone, which is grey. The stone stays grey after being hit with the sword. The stone stays grey after being hit with the ax. The stone stays grey after being hit with the fireball from the lvl 5 Wizard Shlamalamadingdong. The stone stays grey after being hit by the hammer, but is turned into lots of tiny little grey stone pebbles. Adorable little pebbles are grey.
· Gold- GOLD is the color of HOLY AWESOMENESS. What color are paladins? GOLD! What color are their axes? GOLD! What color are necromancers? Trick question, red, because the paladins GOLDEN AXE OF fricking AWESOME is lodged in their skull. And what happens if the paladin is hit by the puny necromancers? He just heals himself, by rubbing GOLD ON THE WOUNDS. And GOLD is SHINY! Increased light damage and healing, increased resistance to dark damage. Can only be placed on heavy armors.
· Silver- Gold's calmer, not so bat**** crazy second cousin that got dragged along into one of gold's schemes. Silver can reflect stuff so... that's cool right? Bonus resistance to light damage and bonus magic damage. Can only be placed on heavy armors.
· Black- "You can't understand black. Black is the color of my soul. You are just a conformist poser who doesn't understand that black is the absorption of all colors, that only we with black can take in the world. You just wouldn't understand." Black is also very prone to "fleshwounds". Bonus to all magic except light, and high chance of gaining surprise round. Takes double damage from physical attacks and light, and has increased chance to bleed or be poisoned.
Possibly more to come.

Classes (just descriptors, with a little bit of their gameplay style hinted at):

Character classes would be gained by collecting the soul of someone with said class. Need the fighter class, good thing that super experienced fighter over there died. Mage? I'm sure there are a couple super old ones about to kick the bucked. Jester? He's annoying, so no one will mind.
Fighter- Basic hit stuff, block stuff. Most likely to be a farmboy taken in by mentor to be trained to save the world, only to find out that he is related to nobility, most likely the major bad guy, and end up ruling the kingdom with the princess he saved along the way.
Mage- You're a mage. Mages read books. Make the references yourself if your so damn smart.
Thief- [The descriptor has gone missing. If you have seen the culprit, please kill them without mercy and return the descriptor]
Ranger- No, for the last time, you cant be a dark elf.
Paladin- You are a warrior of RIGHTEOUSNESS! All EVIL will be SMITED by your +5 SMITING SWORD OF GOLDEN SMITING.
Jester- It's only funny until someone gets hurt, and thats why you'll do anything to convert that damage into laughs. A trickster class that resorts to traps and counters, their signature pratfall allows a jester to avoid physical damage.
Drunken Brawler (alt. BeerBarian)- You drink to fight. You fight to drink. It's a vicious cycle, but hey, at least you're too drunk to know it.
Hobo King- What you lack in fighting power you gain in summoning the ranks of the dirty and downtrodden. Sadly, it does come with pesky bureaucratic work.
Vegemancer- So somebody learned how to control vegetables... Not sure how you can use this one.
Duelist- Fighting in light armor with only a one handed sword might seem silly to most, that is until you've grappled them and slit their throat. The duelist excels at fighting in close range, being able to parry melee attacks and dodge ranged. The only major issue for them is magic, because its kind of hard to parry a meteor.
Mad Scientist Alchemist!: LASERS! EXPLOSIONS! CHEMICALS! This one is all about building crazy contraptions out of combat to blast enemies away. Not very good at actual combat though.
Warlord- The fighter swings his sword, the warlord swings his fighter. It's all about command, and that's what you got. Be able to not only hire allies, but every now and then control them with commands.
Summoner- All you ever wanted was a friend. A 10ft., 1 ton of stone, mindless drone golem friend. I bet he made you friendship cupcakes.
Just some info on the classes: Characters like the ranger would work well with shooting and melee (obviously) and the summoner would be able to create and control monsters, but the new gameplay tactics would come from the unconventional classes like jester, Drunken Brawler, Hobo King, and Warlord. The Jester would be able to plant traps, create clones, and sneak up on enemies (think Shaco from League, but in a Turn Based Strategy/Classic RPG hybrid). Drunken Brawler would get special bonuses based on what alcohol you drink, so his playstyle and stats could vary wildly based on what items you use, allowing you to shift his strengths and weaknesses as needed. Hobo King and Warlord would be summoners who supplant mana with money. Hobo King can literally throw money at enemies to guide his summons and do damage, while the Warlord would purchase troops out of combat to use. The Alchemist would be an item based mage, using the potions and tech made out of combat, rather than spells and a mana pool in combat, to create anything from thrown acids, explosives, or other effects to creating turrets to mow down enemies.
Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
Can someone recommend some fun story-heavy RPGs to me? Coming up with good gameplay is a nightmare! I was thinking of making some gameplay platforming-based, but that doesn't work well in RPG form*. I also was thinking of removing battles, but that would be too much like OneShot. I don't even know how to make good puzzles!
