Hey!

I'm Superstroke, a Canadian exiled in the US.

I've used RPG Maker for a long while now, but could only buy the official 2k3 version on steam until earlier this year ( to the developers:       great work)

I figured that now that I have an official version, I should hang out on the official forums.

Anyways, I am eager to discover the culture here 

I also have a question: I am making a game right now (with the official 2k3 release) but I am using rips and modified rips. On other communities this has always been accepted but bordering on the grey area. Can I present a project using rips (but with proper credits) on the forums?

No, rips aren't allowed here. Now if you want to make your own and base them off the ones you have been using that would most likely be fine though, but not the actual rips.

Anyway, welcome to the group.

As has already been said, rips are not acceptable.

However, there is a resource request section here along with a sub forum for rm2k3 resources. It doesn't have a lot of love yet, but that doesn't mean it's not possible to put out some requests and try to net some interests from our upstanding artist community.

Hello!

Hmm... now that's an interesting question. Sharing/Posting/Linking ripped resources is not allowed for sure, though I'm not 100% sure how it goes with games using them.

For example in my game, I'll use some cutscenes let's say: kinda ripped from show, but I don't think the forums will have to play my game, to realize, that there's such a thing and ban me for this. Also I'm making a fangame, so it is directly connected to / based on that anyway + I'm making a 100% free game and everything will be properly credited. It should be my problem if Hasbro will decide to take me down, not these forums. Well, unless the direct purpose of the game is using tons of rips, stealing and/or making them available all over the place, then the project probably will not be approved at all. But I have no idea, so better don't listen to me, because I'll get banned in no-time. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Rikifive, I personally always thought using rips was about the same as remixing a song and posting it on youtube for free.

Some do get taken down however.

I won't bother redoing them, I feel like it's still too ambiguous (like how much do I need to modify them so that they are "mine" and not rips)

Of course, I won't post the project on this forum then, I don't want to get anyone (or myself) in trouble.

Remixing / Editing is less destructive than direct ripping and claiming as your own, so there is a small difference I think.

~ To be honest I'm not exactly sure how it goes, so I'm not the best source of information ~

Many people are ripping ideas and/or resources for their fangames like Pokemon etc. and I don't think the forum is responsible for that ~ it's up to companies to contact you to take you down when they'll not like it. (forums are not hosting your games, just let's say - linking them and that makes a difference)

However, if you don't have TOU's of these resources and don't know who to credit - then it will be counted as both, ripping and stealing, which most likely will instantly bring problems and that's understandable.

But as I said ~ I have no idea. =P
