Hi there! I'm Tespi, and I'm a serious newbie when it comes to this RPG Maker stuff. I recently bought MV, which is the first program like it I ever had in my life. I'm getting the hang of some things via tutorials and my own playing around with things, but if you have any advice to give on the program, it would DEFINITELY be greatly appreciated!

What I'm NOT a complete newbie with, however, is illustrations and character designs and stuff. Basically I'm an art person, haha. I do have some drawings, if you want to look at them to see what I can do under the cut

I'm hoping to be able to make a little RPG based around one of the stories I am working on. It's gonna be a big challenge for me, but I hope to be able to do it somehow. Anyways, let me know if you have any questions or comments or anything!

Heya! I'm new too, just posted my introduction no less than an hour ago. Newbies unite! Anyways, your art looks great! RPG Maker is pretty easy to pick up on, especially if you find good tutorials. Do you have any projects started yet?

As for advice, which applies to RPG Maker and game design in general: Start small, start simple. Make a fifteen minute game. Call it finished. Then make an hour long game, and finish that. Don't burn yourself out on huge 60-hour expansive RPGs! Also, plugins are your best friend. There's a ton of great ones out there, and they can really change up your game in major ways.

@PrincessPixel  I did wanna work on a project making one of my stories a game, but I can't say I know how long it will be. Sadly I don't have any story ideas that are shorter that could be transferred into game form rather than comic form (I do draw comics, but it's been over a year since I last did a good one worth posting).

@Cadh20000 @Zortik Aaaaa thanks! I'm so happy to hear people actually like my drawings! ;u; I hope to make more, but it's hard with school in the way... (and I go to an art school too do you see the problem and irony in this?). It's a fun program to play with, but I do have a lot of first-time frustrations with it. It took me over an hour just to figure out how to insert custom sprites properly into the game as a playable character. Now if only I could figure out how to do them as NPCs...

I guess from the looks of it my story will have to wait possibly a longer time while I get use to how the controls and events work, but I'm definitely more happy playing with it than what I'm doing now school-wise! Hmm, maybe I should consider a team of people sometime? I can do the art, some writing, and some indoor areas (I have poor layout skills when it comes to making nice outdoor scenes apparently). Only problem is I'm not sure how to pay people for helping since I don't have a lot myself...

Just make an event where you want the NPC and double click on the empty square near the bottom-left side of the event window(the square's label reads "Image"), then select the graphic you want to use for it in the window that pops up. Be sure to set the priority though, if it is set for "below characters" it is be on the ground and can be stepped on, "same as characters" means it will be at the same level and can block the player's way, and "above characters" means it will be over their heads, like a ceiling fan or the top of a doorway, etc...

Hello!! I'm an art-person turned rpgmaker-user too! ^^ (Although I used VX Ace to make my game, so I think the amount of advice I can give is limited... u.u). I think your character is super cute - your style is the exact kind of thing I like. Do you have a deviantart?

@Clovejar  OH QIU (pronounced "Chiu". It's a Chinese name, haha)! She's a major character of mine, and I'm hoping to maybe make a game around what she does and/or her family issues maybe? It makes me happy to hear people call her a monkey character because there had been a person or two before that mistook her for a cat person somehow. Must be because she's not a MONKEY-monkey but more like... I dunno, some kinda monkey/deer Fae? Her family tree is weird. I could answer things as best I can about her though if you have any questions.

@amaSenpai Aaaaa thanks! I actually did that one for an art contest an art store was having. I didn't win a thing though, but I do like how it came out regardless. Watercolors are one of my favorite mediums to work with too. It's actually based on the Japanese Obon/Bon Festival, and the person I was hoping to convey as a spirit to go with it. ouo

@Cadh20000 YAY NEW WATCHERS! I'm so glad you guys actually like my stuff, that makes me so happy! ;u; Now if only I can get out of my personal bad situation so I can try to make more pieces to add to there and my art blog (art blog especially). I'm dealing with an art block right now, so I'm just doing commissions and/or art trades at the moment hoping new ideas kick in.

OH! As I probably mentioned before, if you or anyone else you know is in need of some art for their game, you can let me know about it. I could do it for free if needed, but I would preferred that I got something in return for my help. I just like when both people get something out of something like that, which is why I do commissions and art trades instead of requests. =u=;;

Yeah I got that qiu's chinese XD (my mom's chinese lol. But I bet lots of non-chinese think it's pronounced 'Q' right?) Anyway I'm really into the intricate oriental outfits that you have for her! And maybe I'm completely wrong about this, but does Qiu and her story have anything to do with journey to the west?

Not so good at art trades or I'd be interested. I haven't done anything recently... DX

@Clovejar Oh yeah, a lot of people don't get the Q right, hence why I put how to pronounce it just in case, haha! To be fair I didn't know either until I took a liberal arts class in school called Arts of China last year. Same with "Zh" being like a J sound and maybe "X" like sh (that one I might've known before taking the class I don't remember). When you say intricate outfits do you mean the Empress outfits that are slightly based off of Qing Dynasty attire? I like them too, especially the blue one with the dragons I did before. And ngl when I read "does Qiu and her story have anything to do with journey to the west?" I clapped and went EEEEYYYYYY because you're right! She is suppose to be a direct descendant of Sun Wukong (granddaughter to be specific). Though I think Qiu might have her own situations to deal with, but I do hope to eventually have Wukong make an appearance later on somehow (because as much as I put my own characters through hell I am a big baby and want a happy ending). Her story would take place sometime after his journey, so he'd already be a god/buddha at that point if/when he does show up...

@Cadh20000 I feel ya, man, I don't have a lot of new stuff recently either that's like, an illustration scene or anything. It's mostly been drawing characters and stuff. Heck, I haven't even done a single comic since last year, and that's something I wanna look into as a job maybe too! I hope that can be arranged eventually, I really do wanna draw things that are not school-related, you know?

Hello! I would like to know if there are any pluggings or any way to customize how battles look?
I was thinking that when you start the battle for it to appear the eyes of your characters and opponents sorta like Ace Attorney.
Sadly I don't know how that would be possible so I would be needing help! If you can help me in any way I would really apreciate it!
