Hey there everyone, and nice to meet you. I'm fairly new to RPGmaker MV, but I have a lot of experience with other game engines. My biggest issue has always been that I prefer to operate by myself or with a very small group that understands a long grind is required to finish what we initially set out to do with the budget given. This engine seems to fit everything I'm looking for to complete a life goal of mine, to complete an RPG game and put it out there for others to see/experience. I have created small games using Unity and Unreal engine, and I have played a small part of bigger projects in both of those engines as well as others. My main reason for jumping on with RPG maker is that my son has now come of age to where he can help(and wants to) achieve the goal of completing an RPG game. So I decided to resurrect a project that has almost 20 years of work in it with story line and concept to pursue this life long goal of mine. In the coming weeks I plan on posting some info about the project, and seeking advice as needed. For now I just wanted to introduce myself and say hey there, and that I look forward to the experience.

Hi, and welcome.
As you are new to this particular engine, could I strongly recommend that you have a look at Andar's compilation of info for new users. Among the many useful things there, you will see links to 2 playable tutorials. One is for Event Commands and the other is for Switches and Variables. Being interactive, you and your son will probably learn more, and more quickly, than by reading or watching video tutorials. Just those 2 alone will give a solid foundation in key aspects of RM engines and will save you both a vast amount of time and frustration in the future.

And good luck with your project.

@Kes Thank you for response and the suggestion. I'm actually almost finished with the tutorials, been mixing that in with some other experimenting of my own to learn the flow of RM. That forum post has some really good/wise info in it. Thanks for the heads up.

Welcome to the forums! RPG Maker is a great program for the young as well as the old. My son has been having a blast with it as well.

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
