Hello! My name is Aleksander and I live in Estonia, 15 years old. I always dreamt about making a game myself, trying all kinds of programms to work with but no success. Spot this Rpg maker thing and thought to try it. Haven´t tried it yet, soon will, first will watch some tutorials etc. Wanted to ask, is it possible to make something SCI-Fi like game ? For example S.T.A.L.K.E.R or metro 2033 ? Like, there is a story but like in Stalker you can move around world and do other stuff and such, or is it too complicated for this engine ? I mean not in 3d but in 2d. It is kinda possible i think but you guys are smarter in this.

I'm sorry, but I am unfamiliar with the games you mentioned, so I don't know anything about what is or is not possible in RPG Maker that was done in them.

Yes, it is definitely possible to create an open-world game like STALKER or Metro 2033. You will need to grab a few future resources, and be able to compile your own tilesets. It's possible, definitely! In fact, I think Gorlami's Oneirophrenia is attempting a horror game like that.

It'd be nice to see games like that. Aim high, you might just reach near it! Welcome to RMW.

Free version? Remember anything made with the free versions may be distributed for free, but not marketed or sold.

You have two options for a "free" RPG Maker;

1.) The 1 month long free trial of the full version which will temporarily give you access to everything it can do, but will stop working completely 1 month from the first install unless you purchase it.

2.) The Lite version which has severe limitations on what can be done in it, but which will work for as long as you need it.

(Lite version limitations are on the total number of maps per project, the number of events per map, and scripting beyond simple ones within individual events. I THINK that was it, but it has been a while since I used it.)

There is a contest that just started earlier tonight. If you can place 1st or 2nd you can get a free copy of the full version.

Cadh yeah I already know of that. I think I have a very good idea for the mapping contest. Gonna make it with the 30 day trial version. But do you know any free future like resource packs or kinda like darky and creepy ones and where could I download them ?

I don't know any in particular, but they'd be in here somewhere if there are: Resource Showcase

Just remember to read the rules. Each resource usually has its own terms and conditions.

Also, keep in mind that the contest restricts resources to RTP, resource packs sold through the site, or posted in these forums prior to the start of the contest.

Well, I got something done. Dont hope on any win or something, made this map for fun, but how can I post a picture like theres in the contest forum a couple guys posted pictures so you can watch it without any links. Dont see an option here.

When you go to the reply box, right next to the "Reply" button is a "More Reply Options" button. If you click on that one of the option is "Attach Files".

By the way, "Attach Files" is not an option in PM's so you'll have to upload the file elsewhere and link to it if you want to send something in a PM.
