Hey everyone, I'm OcularCash or
Josyah Dooley for those of you who are interested in real names.
I just downloaded RPG Maker for the first time so thought I'd join the forum and get to know it as well as you all. I've been developing games for fun for the past... Well, we will just say for a very long time lol I am primarily a programmer but have spent the same amount of time in 3d modelling and graphical design as programming, since being a one man developer you kind of have to. I've built several game engines in my past... long time, and have built dozens of games in that time as well.
I've spent the last several years in Unity tho, making FPS and TPS games as well as publishing game assets and helping run a
Unity Forum. I came to RPG Maker to get back to my roots of 8 bit and 16 bit rpgs. Although I could be doing it in Unity or just building my own engine, but Unity seems to be unfit for that style and has alot of issues with 2D and frankly, it's getting kind of old making workarounds just to make gaps not show up between sprites due to floating values and endless list of collision issues. I've seen RPG Maker for years and just never tried it out. After I started building a new engine for my next game, I noticed that RPG Maker recently added Javascript and had to check it out.
Well, download is complete and hope to see you all in the future. It's time for me to check it out and watch some tut's to get down the basic layout of the engine. If you'd like to see some of the stuff I've done in the past couple years like assets, scripts, example projects, etc... You click the link (my name) above. There's hundreds of more examples and samples that I've posted in the past, but I haven't had that website long so not everything is added just yet. Might take awhile.
