Hello RPGMaker Community,

Long I've been thinking about doing a introduction or not since I'm talked a little bit about my person on my game thread. Acually I didn't want to do anything except posting my game(s) and get my questions sloved but I decided to introduce me and be a little more active on this forum. I'll tell you what I intend to achieve. Excuse any word or grammar issues my english isn't good enough.

My name is Sebastian. I'm 19 Years old and from germany. I enjoy games, movies and series/animes. Bet the following already said many users (and most gave up after some time, i guess) but I want to go commercial, and maybe, if I'm good enough I truly can make money out of it. My first game ever made will be a free one called 'Tower of Glory' and can be found here but it's a "alpha". I'll stick to non-commercial until I got the required skill to make quality games that can be sold.

I know to be good enough and learn the basics and advanced things can took many months or even years but I've learned from time to time to be a very patient person. It's a bit tragic and I'm not sure if I should really write this to strangers, but I'm handicapped thats why I want to go commercial I've got no job and my family doesn't have much money. The RPGMaker program was very expensive to me and I hope, if my games won't be good enough, I'm able to get the money for the program back of them at least.

I've never shared that information about me anywhere in the internet but the plan to make money with the rpgmaker requires suggestions, feedback and criticism of the community (so I can learn faster by my issues) here on this forum so I want to be honest with everything about me and it kinda feels good to tell this to someone. But doesn't wrote this thread to get your heart with my story becouse everyone has something through which he could cry or at least makes him sad a whole day. Please don't limit me to that, I'm a normal person  :D

Best regards  :thumbsup-right:

Welcome to the community, Baddibu :) I hope you can achieve your goals, and it's good that you're getting experience first before making a commercial game. Some newbies just rush headlong without caring for quality.

Thank you. Indeed, most people do that whether with the rpgmaker or something completely different. They read about it or watch a video and think they can do the same, but what they not see is that the person who made the video or wrote the tutorial has needed much time to train and only then they could make the video or write the tutorial. In my view this is the main reason why you always encounter unfinished things in the internet. Becouse people see and want something. They dont see, understand, train and get it.  :)

Welcome, Baddibu.

You have the absolutely right approach.  Put as much effort as you can into your non-commercial games --- polish them, balance them and treat them exactly the same as ones you would want to sell.

Also, IF they decide to hold one --- they may or may not --- take part in the IGMC next year.  This was a contest to take 30 days and try to create the best game possible.  The games were judged and the grand prize winner would get $10,000.   Now, there were 800 entries so there was a lot of competition.  Many of them were absolutely amazing, and some of them were utter junk.   Even if you don't win anything, it's a great chance to really test yourself.

And, most importantly, listen to the constructive feedback you get from members in this community, on your non-commercial games.    If you want to see a shining example of how NOT to make an RPG, see this Let's Try for an RPG Maker game called "Block Land".  One of our own community members did the playtesting:

Best of luck!

Thanks! Yes, thats what I'm here for!

I think this contest next year is a nice way to see how well you could improve yourself by doing a (good) game in just 30 days.

30 days might sound much, but it isn't. My goal for that contest wouldn't be to win the first prize, but to see what people think about a game I've made under time pressure. And I'm curious how big that game would be. Actually, that whole thing is very interesting for me.

Are there other challenges like that? They don't need to have a prize.

Welcome aboard buddy! Best of luck here.
Thank you :)

Welcome aboard fellow newbie!! BD

You're definitely come at this with the right approach, I myself plan on making at least 2-3 games before even attempting to go commercial, I say at least but it's probably going to end up being a lot more than that.

Hi, thank you.

Most likely it will be more than 2-3 for me. But it also depends on Feedback. If I do my game now, will it be any good? How can I know that? Out of 18 downloads I got not a single feedback so either people abort playing it becouse it's bad or they playing it but don't tell me what they think about it. Maybe becouse it's only 15 minutes of gameplay or my bad grammar, who knows. Anyhow, I keep trying even if i need to completely finish the game to get my first feedback  ;)

Incidentally, welcome to the forums, too  :)

I've seen your welcome thread and decided to attach the welcome to this post. I want to wish you good luck with all your games. If you need a tester for your game(s), pass me a PM and I'll test it, take me a notepad and write down all the good and bad things of the game in the view of a 'newbie', becouse I didn't play much RTP games yet.. Thats, for me, the best way to learn something. By getting criticism.  BD

Regards,

Baddibu

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
