I purchased RPG maker over the steam sale and am in the process of creating a game for a very future commercial release. I just have some general questions. I have tried reading up on the terms of use and other sources, but really, I have a hard time understanding this stuff. I know it is ok to put your game up for sale, as long as you give credit, but these are my questions:

-If I DL these compilation patches RPG Maker has for material, Can I give credit as a whole, or do I have to find out every single author?

-If you sell your game, how do you protect yourself? Is there a process to go through once you are ready to sell?

I've moved this thread to Commercial RPG Maker Discussion. Please be sure to post your threads in the correct forum next time. Thank you.

Credit depends on the terms of the pack you use. If you purchase a pack from the store, I believe you only have to list the pack as being used (but check the readme file in each pack). If it's a ReStaff or Member+ pack, you may need to credit individual artists.

For your second question, check some of the pinned topics in the Commercial Discussion forum.

The resource packs contain a text file which you must copy, pretty much exactly how it appears, into your game at some point.

What do you mean by protecting yourself? You can get Digital Rights Media, that is, DRM, which protects the game itself and helps to prevent pirating, but I never bother with it. As for 'getting ready to sell,' it can be quite a pain in the behind getting through the doors with digital distributors. Once you're through though, they'll take anything you can throw at them.

Unless your meaning of 'digital distributors' is different to mine, I wouldn't agree with this. Every game in my signature, except the first, has been released by Big Fish Games, and still we have to jump through hoops to get them to accept and release new titles. Well, accepting is not the hard part, but they demand a lot before they deem a game worthy of release, and we always have to put in a lot more work after WE think the game is 'done'.

I've never heard back from BFG... so I couldn't possibly comment. I suppose I'm mainly speaking of Desura and GoG, who seem relatively happy with anything you submit once you're 'in.' Shiny Loot operate in a similar way, though they're still pretty new to the scene.

Of course, you're far more experienced in the field than I am. I've only been doing this for about a year, so I should take heed of your experiences and advice.

No, so far, Amanda has done all the sending to distributors. I just get to pick up all the "do this", "do that", "change this" requests before they'll release it :)

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
