Recently released a demo of an RPG Maker VX Ace project I've been working on.
Hollow Planet is a si-fi roguelike-like rpg. It uses a combination of scripts and events to emulate a randomly generated rpg experience. The objective is simply to reach the end of a run without falling in battle. The player must trek through randomly laid out levels while fighting enemies and finding items. Along the way the player can find treasures that generate random items and equipment based on the area. There is a pool of unique equipment (relics) on each floor and seeing all of them will require multiple playthroughs. They current demo is comprised of 5 areas, each with randomly generated levels and a boss located at the end. Each floor has a pool of 4 enemies that may be encountered and reflect the nature of the area. The player will have to decide when and when not to fight, as fighting every enemy they encounter can quickly drain resources. Two different weapons can randomly found within chest in each area, usually within the second to last level. These weapons are different for each character and can give the player an edge for future floors by exploiting enemy weaknesses. Each area also has specific armors that can be found, and managing to obtain and equip 3 pieces of the same armor set can give the player additional bonuses. In order to move from level to level the player must find the teleporter (a blue diamond shaped stone) in each area which can be placed anywhere on the level. Falling in battle at any point will put the player back at the start screen, so they are required to survive all they way to the final encounter. There are two playable characters in the demo with different stats, weapons and skills and different endings. In further builds of the game I intend to introduce more unlockable characters, each with unique skills and endings that reveal more about the story.World SettingThe game takes place on Planet Ceres, an earth like planet home to to many alien races and species. The planet contains many different regions lying deep within the world harboring strange creatures and monsters. At the deepest point within Ceres lies a living core, that provides the the world and its inhabitants with mana while keeping the planet stable. However, when an irregularity is detected deep within the planet's core, it is determined that The Core has grown unstable and thus Ceres will soon find itself on the brink of destruction. Only the planets strongest denizens who can utilize mana can stand fight The Core, placating it by using their skills an abilities to stabilize it's mana energy and save the planet from from harm.Their are four known elite mana users that live on Planet Ceres. A solider, scientist, samurai and a sentinel. But only one of these heroes will venture deep within the earth to combat The Core and save Ceres.
Playable Characters
Captain Howitzer- A commanding officer of the GDF, trained in use of
intergalactic weaponry and technology. Upon learning that the Planet is in danger, he sets out immediately to stabilize The Core, knowing he may be the only one strong enough to stand against it.
Marine- Can support himself with offense and defense buffs while fighting enemies.
Hyper Hal- A super-scientist with an experimental armor suit
that can warp through space. Upon discovering that the The Core's energy levels are unstable, he decides now is as good as time as any to test the full capabilities of his newly crafted Hyper Amor.
Hypermancer- Activates skills that unlock stronger techniques and amplify his attack strength.
Features
Random Dungeon Generation- Each area contains randomly generated areas, placing the character, enemies and treasures in random locations.
Relics- Each area contains unique, random treasures you can find and equip to increase your characters stats.
Armor Sets- Equipping 3 pieces of armor from the same set will give additional bonuses.
Elements and Ailments- Multiple elements and status elements can be used by the player and enemies.
Planned Future Features
*Additional unlockable characters- I plan to have a least 4 playable character in the final version of the game.
*Additional unlockable dungeon variations- Unlock more areas to traverse in addition to the initial five with new enemies/bosses and added difficulty.
*Additional Bosses- More tough enemies that may randomly appear during runs.
*Money and Merchants- Earn money from enemies and buy rare items from merchants during runs.
*Pets- Find monsters that can aid the player in battle with unique skills.
*Achievements- Collection of achievements awarded for defeating certain enemies and completing certain objectives.
