Hey I'm super new to all of this, just got RPG Maker MV yesterday.. I've tried searching around but I can't seem to find what I am looking for.
I'd like to make a Character Name Input window appear when pressing Start. Pretty much exactly like the old Dragon Quest games.
Press "Start" and it opens up a window, similar to the way my Options menu opens, that asks you to input a custom name then the game starts.
Ideally I would like the window to show the alphabet in both capitals and lowercase and not include symbols and numbers. Allowing for spaces and to backspace would be perfect too. I just have no idea how to even make this..

(Just a quick note that I am making DQ1 within RPG Maker MV as a way to learn how to use this program and it obviously won't be released to anyone)

You could turn on the 'Start Transparent' option in the editor so that it doesn't show the player by default (so you can have an empty map), and make a starting map with nothing but black tiles where an event auto runs and asks you to name the player.

Also, the command you want for your event is called Name Input Processing~!

Awesome thank you, that worked!
How exactly can I go about changing the layout though?
I'd like to
- remove the character portrait
- make the windows smaller
- remove symbols and numbers
- remove "page" and replace that with a backspace button instead
- remove the highlights from where the name is shown as well as the characters selected
- Include a custom cursor for what character is selected
Are there plugins that are perfect for this or what? I'm horrible at code

I've added the default layout as well as an image I put together of what I would like^^

I'm not aware of any plugins that change the layout to be like that, so if you want that setup you're going to have to edit Scene_Name yourself or get a plugin writer to do it for you.

You could leave the Picture of the Hero, in the Database, Blank and assign one later on.
Thatway its not shown.
Everything else is not possible to change in standard MV, you would need a Plugin to change the
Optics. I cant recall one for this Job, maybe someone else knows one.

For customizing the name input screen, there's SRD_NameInputUpgrade. I'm not quite sure if it offers everything you want, but it definitely offers some of the features you need.

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
How many parameters is 'too many'??
