How can I create a custom menu?

I'm making a horror game so I don't need the menu to show gold, status and stuff like that. How can I remove those?

You're going to want to use a plugin. There's a lot of custom menu plugins out there, but for your horror game, a good one to look at is mjshi's non-combat menu.
