Hello

I am basically looking for Ideas and solutions if possible on how I can make the player go under a bridge without it showing that it is on top of the bridge.

What I am looking for is maybe a feel of depth making it seem like the player is going under a bridge. any Ideas or solutions will be most helpful, Oh and I have a video showing what I mean.

thanks

note: If I didn't put this in the right place is it ok to move it?

Hey there!

I know of two ways to accomplish this:

1) Turn the bridge segments into events which alternate between above and below the player, depending on where the player is. You can use regions to determine this - one region atop the stairs triggers the bridge segments to be below the player, whilst another region can be placed at the bottom of the stairs to trigger the bridge segments to appear above the player. A single event can control this, using a set of conditional branches and a script call "$game_player.region_id == 1" - replace the '1' with the number of the region you wish the event to monitor. You can also use events instead of regions, but that just uses up more events.

2) You can use this script by Neon Black.

I created this using ingame events. Is this what you're looking for?

Bridge Underpass

Edit: It's a little glitchy because I recorded it at 30fps and not 60. It looks like the player vanishes under the bridge rather than walk under it, but it does in fact flow smoothly under the bridge. That moment probably fell in the 30 missing framerates.

Hi Briggs thanks for sharing that, I am just curious on how you did it so I can get a idea if you don't mind?

Note: my computer is getting serviced so I won't be using it for while until I figure out what's wrong.

I won't go in details sorry.

Thanks in advance

So borrowing your map to make sure it worked, this took 23 events to pull off.

Let me show you the basics, and you can tweak it how you want. The basic overpass using this system takes a minimum 9 events.

Since your middle bridge is the perfect example for a basic setup, let's use this. You'll want your map to look like this. You'll need to put passable tiles where your bridge overpass is.

With 9 events, you want to set it up in a large 'plus' sign. The center event will be your bridge. For the remaining 8 events, divide them evenly around the center. 2 above, 2 below, 2 to the left, and 2 to the right. Or 5 vertical, 5 horizontal, crossing over in the middle. A large 'plus' sign.

The outer 4 events are your Control Switches. Below Character, Player Touch. In the Contents, your Control Switch. Whatever you want to name it of course.
No Control Self Switch.

  • Top & Bottom: Contents; Control Switch = Off
  • Left & Right: Contents; Control Switch = On
The inner 4 events are your barriers. Without these, you'd float right off your bridge. You'll have 2 sets of 2 events with 2 pages each. Set 1 will be directly above and below your center event with the bridge graphic. Set 2 on either side.

  • Set 1
  • Pg 1: Above Character
  • Pg 2: Same as Character; Condition: Control Switch is On
  • Make the graphic of each page your cross beam under the bridge.
  •
  • Set 2
  • Pg 1: Same as Character
  • Pg 2: Below Character; Condition: Control Switch is On
Make the graphic of your center event the bridge on both pages.

  • Pg 1: Above Character
  • Pg 2: Below Character; Condition: Control Switch is On
This should do the trick.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask!
