How can I zoom the screen?

This is not about battles

Let's say for example, I want to zoom in the screen centering on my "hero", for use in cutscenes or storytelling for example, how can I zoom in for that?

Alternatively, is it possible to zoom out as well? (for example, if you are in a big forest, or use a map item or something like that, I think it could be cool... or is it just me)

Masked made a plugin that allows you to do this. He said he made it based on this thread and even linked it but I guess forgot to post that he did so here.
