I've always been aware of it after coming across XP back in the day. I attempted to make an entire game in the timespan of the free trial and it was... well, I'm glad it never saw the light of day but I still wish I still had it.

I've stuck with the software ever since then and went with VX Ace as my engine of choice.

Some Tumblr post made a passing reference to RPG Maker existing and I immediately went and looked it up and bought VX Ace ( the current engine at the time ) because I wanted to make my own Shining Force. Never did make a tactics game, but have had plenty of fun messing around with the engines since.

Hmm, I've always been aware of RPG Maker. I only just started using it last month though because when I was thinking about my game, I was trying to find the perfect engine that would be able to deliver on the game that I imagined perfectly. So far, RPG Maker is the best candidate for that. It also helps that I have little game dev experience, so it's a good place to start haha.

I think I was first exposed to my first RPG Maker game back in the early 2010's called "Mad Father", though I hadn't actually found out about the actual RPG Makers themselves until somewhere between 2013 - 2014 when my sister bought RMVXA for £20 on Steam, which I frequently messed around with. I loved the idea of being able to create my own game, but at the time I didn't have the knowledge (or patience) to make things work or make my own assets.
Now I have my own copy of RMVXA that I plan to make something with! I don't have much right now, but I'm not going to give up quite so easily this time!

Found out about it around the time of XP on my parent's computer when I was still a kid. I had a rubbish shareware version of RPG Maker XP and had no idea what I was doing. Shortly afterwards I found rpg maker 2003 and set out to make the next final fantasy. It was terrible obviously haha. Had a soft spot for the engine ever since though.

I didn't have a computer until I was like 16. I got rpg maker for the psx when I was around..14? Spent soooo much time on that, and it solidified my desire to make games. I ended up going to a game dev college, but ended up becoming an author as a career, who would have guessed lol. Been dabbling again in rpg maker since 2015, and recently started a new project back in July that I'm very serious about.

It was the late 90s. I think I just heard it mentioned somewhere and looked it up. Official English language releases were not available. I played around with it. Once a commercial English version was available, I purchased it, and I've upgraded a few times.

I forgot when, but a friend of mine from high school introduced me to RPG Maker 2003. I've been hooked ever since. :)

After I got to playing Final Fantasy VII and IX, and was playing a decent amount of RPGs thanks to the PS2 and PS1 (and some GBA), I saw RPG Maker 3 in a store so I decided to pick it up.

I never finished the game I was making with it because I ran out of memory, but it did inspire me once I got a laptop capable of handling it and the know-how to use them, the PC versions of RPG Maker, starting with VX Ace.

I found out about it 2 months ago. I'd played an mlp game called cursed gem which was an rpg and I got curious about the engine it was made with and found out about rpg maker mv. I installed it and started messing with it and then some game ideas came to me

I searched 'how to make a game without coding' and RPG maker was one of the few that popped up.

PS1 RPG Maker! The fact that you can make a working RPG on a console, without coding just blew my little teenage mind. I always thought game making was a giant corporate business, not something you can do it alone.

On unrelated note, I am having same kind of amazement with Dreams on PS4.

I played videogames since around ~1996 and in ~2000 I got interested in creating stuff by myself on PC. There wasn't so much to choose from especially if you didn't have Internet connection at home at the time. Stumbled upon programs, I remember the old GameMaker and (the horrible) 3D GameStudio, at the same time there were simple just-click-stuff-together-programs like T3DGM that I took a few looks at, also tried to learn programming in C/C++, VB and Flash/ActionScript (and failed all of them).

The next chapter is the most common story you'll hear from people of around my age living in Germany in 2002, because that was when in July/August the printed magazine "Screenfun", a lightweighty games- and tech-spinoff of the "Bravo", did a big showcase (which was announced at the last page of previous issue) of RPGツクール2000 with an introduction to the program on three full pages. And then on the CD that came with it, they've put two games (a short demonstration and a very big title made in 2001) and Don's unauthorized RTP to be able to play them, this became a tradition for the magazine that continued for some years. I got hooked instantly and wanted to try out, but that had to wait until about a full year later when I finally had the opportunity to start using it.

And with all my previous fails in learning programming with code, I finally reached a level of "skill" with Ruby that I'd say is okay at least, long time after my first confrontation (2004/2005 when looking at RPGXP) with this funny-obscure-crazy language, around 2013.

I first heard about it on the PS1 back in the 90's. I saw it on the PC in the year 2000s but it looked too overwhelming and wasn't interested. I decided to try it on the Nintendo Switch but it was too slow and gave up on it.
I heard about rpg maker unite coming soon and I was like...let's try it out again but on the PC.

I was aware of its general existence for a long time because of steam.

But I didn't actually dig deeper until recently, when a game I played mentioned RPG Maker in it's system requirements. I was inspired and bored, so I decided to check it out.

Hi, I am new here, exciting! Emmm where to change my head portrait?
I now have an idea of how to approach my IGMC entry for this year's theme, as well as a working title (TBA). Given the limited time I can spare, I'm going with a game design that doesn't require a battle system. Something that could be expanded if I want to make it a longer game, but can probably be played through within 2 hours (the goal for now), at least on a speed run.
