Hi everyone! Thanks to your help my game is coming along nicely! Anyway, I was wondering if it was possible to add custom window backgrounds and fonts to my game? I know I can change the window color, but I want to give it a little something extra and kind of make it my own. I'm not really a fan of the somewhat transparent options available by using the color slider. Any advice for putting in custom window options and fonts would be greatly appreciated, thank you! :)

This can be done very easily. With the window background, all you have to do is change the Window skin.

1: Locate the Window.png file in your project folder. The path is as follows:

    C:\Users\<username>\Documents\Games\<game title>\img\system\Window.png

2: Find or create a new Window skin. To create one, you'll want to copy your original window skin (putting it somewhere's else, for safe-keeping) and edit it yourself with an image editing software, like Gimp or Photoshop.

If you want to download one somebody else made, just find one. (Probably located in the MV Resource forum.)

3: Put your new Window skin into the folder that contained the original one. You either replace the original windowskin file or you remove it from the project.

(It is unwise to leave both in there.)

For the font, you'll probably need a plugin. I'm pretty sure you'll need Yanfly's Message Core plugin.

Okay I have yanfly's message core, but I don't see anything about changing the font type. Is it the font name? Also when I made a new window skin, it still has a weird transparent effect behind it. How do I make the window solid?

I don't have that much time right now, I'm baking stuff for a thing. Please post the image in an attachment in the next post and I'll see what's wrong.

(Later I'll look at the Message Core.)

    EDIT: Done baking.

I'm sorry if I'm interrupting you, thank you for taking your time to help me! :)

The Windows aren't fully solid, and are still see-through. I would like them to be fully black. Also every time I try to load a new font, the game crashes. I'll try to get a picture to show you, but the forum won't let me upload more than 4.88 mb. :p

Basically I'm trying to change the opacity of the window to make it solid black.

Upload it to another image provider, like Photobucket or something and just link it here.

If the problem is colored windows when you play, just change the color to '0,0,0' and your windowskin should show through.

If the problem is that the piece itself has opacity, just go over it with a brush or something.

And what I meant was upload the windowksin file that was having problems.

Ah. I see. The windowskin has definitive areas and such that make the windowskin a windowskin.

    (see: attached file)

See the difference? I was suggesting that you make the current windowskin in another layer, and either copy that layer and modify it, or you trace that one and add details and such, deleting the old layer when you were done with the windowskin you had.

I haven't had time to actually look into the Message Core plugin, but I'll do that now.

(I'm fairly certain that this windowskin is one that Yanfly had modified, so credit him if you use this one. More should be in the MV Resource forum.)

(The big red one in the top left is the main body, below is what is in front of the thing. Beside the big red one, there's the border of the windowskin, and the little things in there are the icons. Below that, on the left, is the icon that show the player has that option selected. Beside that is some arrows that show when there's a text box open. The colors below those are the colors of the text code you can add.)

I'm actually going to probably go to sleep soon. I have to wake up early for my students.

I'll work on the thing when I can.

    G'night.

Thank you, I appreciate everything you've done :)  I managed to change how the menu looks, but there is still a level of opaqueness that surrounds all of the text options.

Okay, I figured out how to adjust the opacity level using Yanfly's Core Engine plugin. Now I just need to figure out how to change the font to a custom one.

    Download the font.

    Open your game's folder.

    Go into the 'fonts' folder.

Drag your newly downloaded font into the 'fonts' folder.

    Right-click, edit the 'gamefont.css' file.

Change the name in parenthesis to your new font name.

So in your case change "mplus-1m-regular.ttf" to "Pixel-Noir.ttf"

    Done.

Alright, I tried this and the game is now failing to load. Is the font size too big?

Hmm. I just tried it plus some others and they didn't work either.

    Maybe only some work.

I thought it was maybe because it was pixel font but I got some pixel fonts to work.

Not sure why it won't work. :L
