This is probably a dumb question with a blatantly obvious solution, but I'm a complete newbie, and I've done far more photoshopping than actual game making so far.

I've succeeded in changing my actor's face skin colour by changing the colours of the graphics in the "generator" folder in the installation directory, including the colour of the face and ears on the sprite. The rest of her body is still human colour though, and I want to change that. Where can I find the graphics that control the body skin colour?

Bonus question! I changed the colour of the skin by running all the files through an automated action in photoshop. Is there an easier way to do this? Some third party software, perhaps? It seems easy, but it's still fairly time consuming.

There are a few programs that allow you to do pixel art, my personal favorite is: Graphics Gale. I'm not sure if I can actually link it so I'll just let you search it.

It has a free and paid version, unless you plan on doing animations and stuff the free one will work just fine. Also I don't think you can change colors for the generator so you'll have to save the sprite and recolor it the way you want to. I could be wrong on this, but I'm pretty sure this is how it is.

Cheers and good luck!

All you gotta do is save the sprite, then import it into your editing program, change the skin colour and voila! Your sprite has a different skin colour! Easy peasy :)

That's what I would do, but if I'm going to make a lot of actors with those skin colours, I'd rather edit the base file than the file for each individual character. I just don't know where it is!

It should be located in C:\Program Files\Enterbrain\RPGMakerVXAce\Generator. You'll have to edit each and every body for the skin since they're coloured arms and legs.

I run Windows 7 though, so...

I just found it! I've probably just stared myself blind at the folders and tiny tiny pictures yesterday, it's part of the clothes files in the generator/mini/female or male folder, but underneath the actual clothes. There only seem to be three skin colours instead of four, but I'll figure it out. Thanks!

An alternative is to create your sprite in Sprite Creator 3, a free program which gives you a range of skin colours to choose from.

Thanks for the great resources!

@bloodmorphed, you can actually change the colours for the generators, but it's a mess and a lot of work in photoshop since you'll need to edit over a hundred files that will replace the default skin colours, but I made it work. I don't recommend putting in the effort though.

so hopefully tomorrow i get to go home from the hospital i've been here for 5 days already and it's driving me mad. I miss my family like crazy but at least I get to use my own toiletries and my own clothes. My mom is coming to visit soon i can't wait to see her cause i miss her the most. :kaojoy:
Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
